changing number in your party??

I have to make my ADRs on Sat., and my in-laws have not yet decided if they will be joining us. If I make the ADRs for 5 people, can I then call to change it to 3 if they decide not to join us? Or will I have to completely cancel and try to get another time for just the 3 of us?? This is for Thanksgiving and the following days, so you can understand why I am stressed about this!! It will be hard enough getting an ADR for Thanksgiving day as it is .

I just had to add one to our party of four to make it ADRs for five. Because the table configuration would be different, I needed to RE-BOOK all of our reservations. We did not get a Chef Mickey's ADR as a result. They were totally booked for that date in August.

The CM reminded me that if I, by chance, needed to add one more person to the reservation, no big deal. A "five top" could easily add the sixth person.

I had to change from 3 to 4 for all my reservations last Thanksgiving week. I had cancel and rebook for what seemed like all the hard to get LeCellier, 1900 Park Fare. It was about half and I did it a month and a half before our trip. The other half were tables for 4 anyway.

Thanks for all the help! I think I am going to just tell them straight out "You either tell me tonight if you are going or be prepared to eat hamburgers and chicken strips for Thanksgiving dinner!!!" (without us of course, since we will have our ADRs)

Make all your reservations for five. It's MUCH easier to cancel a few people than to add people. Always go for the maximum and then adjust down.

I thought I read here that when you change the number of diners on your reservation, they cancel and re-reserve. I would make all for 5, especially the ones you really want and might not be able to get in a month.
