Ok so it's been over a month and I'm still changing my name on stuff. Good times! I got the credit cards done and some of the other stuff. I finally got myself to the DMV yesterday and the lady, who was oh so pleasant, told me that the paperwork I had wasn't acceptable and that I needed a marriage certificate. We had done the Brevard County marriage licence by mail, so I had my marriage "licence". I just emailed them to see if I get a certificate sent to me. Does anyone know about this? Thanks for any input

Yep, she's right. I had to wait on my marriage certificate too for my license and my ss#. It usually takes about a month to get it back, signed by Brevard Co. (we did the license by mail too :goodvibes ).

Call the Clerk at Brevard Co. and ask if it has been processed and mailed yet.

It's not just you. We got married in December and my name change didn't go through until Valentine's day... and now I'm STILL trying to get everything updated. I obviously don't have a marriage certificate, but I have a court name change, which you'd think would be freakin' good enough! I need to get a new SS card, drivers lisence, and passport. Changing my name at the bank was easy, and they sent me a new debit card right away, but everything else has been a huge pain.

hmm, I totally lagged and didn't change my name until almost 1 year later... It took me 2 whole days to do it! :sad2: Anyway, I obviously had my official marriage certificate. I went to SS, applied for the name change, then went back to SS the next day to pick up my printout (it takes a day to get in the system) then went to DMV. whatta pain. I still have to change some credit cards and it's been almost another year...

Yeah, you need the official certificate (or court-ordered name change paperwork). We're in FL so we got the license locally and Rev. Jack submitted it for us. When we got home from our honeymoon we had our official marriage certificate in the mail. I went to the SS office and it took about 15 minutes to get my new SS card with my new name (I moved my maiden to my middle while I was there). The next day I went to DL and did the same (that was an issue because my contacts prescription changed and they made me do the eye test which I basically failed!). I could have done it all in one day but I had to get back to work. The CCs and bank stuff they did over the phone or on-line. It was very easy. I couldn't believe they sell kits to do this - what a racket! Oh, the longest was my new Notary stamp, that took several weeks but I was "allowed" to use my old one until it arrived. I never bothered to change magazine subcriptions or things like that.

i wrote to someone at the office and this was the reply that i got...

If your license has a stamp at the bottom that says this is a true and
certified copy etc. and there is a clerks seal, also blue, it should be
acceptable.

You may want to check with the DMV and see if they require a raised
seal. We do not normally certify documents with raised seals but I have
found that some states or countries require them.

Let me know and I will send out a new one.

... so does that mean that i am not getting an actual certificate? oh the drama of the name change... i'll try writing back letting her know that i have heard that i will need an actual certificate. thanks for all your replies!!!

If you have a court name change, no one should cause you any problems! My df adopted my daughter 17 months ago. When he did so, I went ahead and changed my name to his and hers (that way I wouldn't have my exhusbands name.. which I had kept while dd had it). It was extremely simple, the judge signed off on it, and then I showed a copy of the order at the different places that I needed my name changed at. It was no problem.

You'd think so... but I keep asking WHY I changed my name (which shouldn't freakin' matter). When I say "because I got married," they then want to see a marriage certificate. Next time I'm saying "because my father is a scum-bucket and I didn't want his name any more."

Nah... I'm not frustrated with the process. Not at all.

I would simply say that it was a personal decision that I would rather not discuss with a stranger. That should shut them up.
