Changing my SW ressie's....is this possible?

I have ressies for SW round-trip. The trip down was at the 'Advance Purchase' rate while the return trip is at the 'Refundable Anytime' rate. If SW would happen to DING my flights at lower prices, can I call and change the ressies?

Thanks!

Did you book Round trip or One Way's? You can cancel your reservations and get the new DING rates, but just be careful the flights you want are offered on the DING fares. I think you need to do everything on line as the regular CS agents do not have access to the DING fares.

Someone with a bit more experience may be able to help you more. Good luck.

The Wog is correct the CS reps have no Dings on their system . They will walk you through the process of canceling your flight and using the TTV to book the Ding.

Always book One-ways ( 2 confirm numbers) when booking SW . This way if you get a better price for one leg it will not effect the other.

I have 4 legs booked right now with 2 dings and a $250 TTV or credit .Waiting for my Dec flight (had them booked before our Oct trip) to get some Dings ,So hopefully our June or spring trip will already be paid for as far as flights go.

I did book online but not with DINGS. Unfortunately, I booked round-trips so if I understand the above correctly...I'm stuck with what I have...Am I correct?

I looked at one-way bookings (times 4 for the entire family) but this was more expensive so instead I did round-trip bookings.

I believe that if you go ahead and book the DING fares, you can cancel your current reservation online and then use the credit from the original airfare to book the new rate. You would then have credit left over which would be good for a year towards a new flight on SW. Call and check with them, but I'm 99% sure that is correct. :thumbsup2

You may not be stuck, you may not get DINGS for all the flights you want. Such as you might have a DING on the way back, but not on the way down and if you cancel your reservation you will lose the rates for the way down. If you need to rebook, you risk rebooking the flights there at a higher rate. It can be pretty confusing.

If you have a roundtrip air fare booked.

You can call in and have them cancel just 1 segment of your trip.
Your confirmation number will then let you acess the funds on-line.

I'm not sure if people cancel their one way. Then book the dings?

We had a 1 stop to MCO this friday. We found a delta direct flight for what the SW flight was w/ 1 stop for only $89. We booked before the liquid ban, and now the semi-liquid ban, otherwise I wouldn't have booked a connecting flight.
I called in and they were happy to cancel the cmh to mco portion of the flight. Then a couple minutes later, the $$ showed up in the online section.

I will say, the first time I called, they canceled my husbands correctly,
and mine incorrectly. His showed up right away. I waited about 10 more minutes and mine didn't show up. I had to call back in, and the next lady fixed mine, and then the credit showed up on-line.

Just for your info....I always book round trip flights and have still been able to rebook one or both legs at lower rates, if a better deal came along. When you go to Travel Center and click "Change Reservation", you just check the flights you wish to change. If only one leg of the trip is cheaper, just check that one and leave the other one alone. If both are cheaper, check them both. I have done this on many SW flights and have gotten credit in our account toward future travel. All of my fare changes/reductions have been through online reservations and not the DING program. Check there periodically to see if the costs of your flights have gone down.

Before I make the actual change, I do check to see if the fare is available for everyone in our party/on our reservation. I've never had a problem, but I hold my breath everytime I make a change.

SSF,
That's good info to know. I don't expect the fares to come down due to my flight dates (12/24 and 1/2) but I continue to look daily. I don't like the idea of only receiving credit for future flights within one year but what can you do.
'Hindsight being 20/20' I should have booked full price and change my ressie when I feel the fares can go no lower, however, Mr. Murphy rarely favors me and most likely I would miss the best deal or the fares would never come down.

southwest cancelled on part of a R/t? This is new.

Last fall, I had booked RT tickets and was not ABLE to change a RT ticket to take advantage of a better fare on one leg of the trip. I tried to change on line and it wouldn't let me. I called SWA and they said they couldn't do it. I always book OW now.

To the OP - If you booked on Advance fares, and Refundable anytime, the likely hood of a ding being applicable is very slim, I think.

I recenly checked some DINGS fares against Flight Availability, and DINGS were not even offered where Fun Fares were available

Thanks for everyone response. Going by most of the post, booking round trip locked me in. That said, I will need to remember to book OW's only in the future.

Thanks everybody for your response

I'm not sure if you're talking about booking round trips online, but that's all I've ever booked online..............it pulls up the flights down and back and I pick one of each. I've been able to use this in the past as a credit towards other flights. Tazfan, go the the following link and type in your confirmation #'s to see if you have any funds available. That should let you know.

I'll check that out mdhkitten...

I wonder if SW changed their procedures. SSF had experience in modifying individual legs of a r/t flight yet RPSEMONT could not.

...I'm probably missing something here.

Please let us know what happens! You have made me, for one, very curious. :goodvibes

Just to clarify, (and by way of history), I think when I first started booking with SWA (which was during their 35th anniversary year in 2001 - I remember because they offered $35 OW fares to MCO) the change option was not available. You had to cancel and rebook. It was in days of slower computers and very nervewracking, because I would always worry that between cancelling and rebooking the availability or the fare would change. I could have booked at the lower fare, then cancelled the more expensive, and used the credit from the cancelled flight on a future ticket, but we weren't going as frequently then and I didn't have the cash flow. After all a credit, is still money out of your pocket. I remember later reading on these boards that you could go in and change air itinerary to get the lower flight and I was thrilled. I probably did this on almost every ticket I bought, because I would buy when they first opened up and then watch fares and adjust to better pricing as available. I would always book RT, and could change one leg or both legs. Last fall however, in one particular instance, it would not let me make the change to only one leg. I think I booked a promotional fare down and an IOW back. When a lower internet OW came out, it would not let me change just the IOW portion, it said I had to change both legs. Unfortunately, at that time, all the promotional fares were gone, and the only thing available was a restricted or special fare that was more expensive, so the savings I would have gotten changing the IOW was completely offset by by the increase from the promotional fare. that why, from now on, I try to book OW. Interestingly enough, after a conversation with SWA, I booked the same flight at the lower fare on a new itinerary. Then, after we arrived, using the promotional fare to get to mco, I cancelled the back 1/2 of the ticket where the price was $99 and flew home on my new itineray - where the price was $49. So I ended up with TTF to use on a future flight and did end "getting the cheaper fare"
