Changing my plans and of course what I want isn't available now

I'm planning a trip to Disney for New Year's Eve this year. Originally we were going to do a split stay with a stay at the Contemporary to see the 30th fireworks and then move to Beach Club for Epcot fireworks on the 31st. Instead we are going to go on a cruise a week later and don't want to stay as long for this trip to save on money. So I wanted to shorten the stay by one day and leave on the 1st and only stay at the Contemporary club level. Of course there isn't any theme park view club level rooms available for that date range.

So I downgraded to a normal theme park view, but I really wanted to try out the club level and it'll be shortly after we get married so a bit of a pre honeymoon trip and wanted it to be really nice.

What are the chances a room will open up?

There is club level theme park view available at the Polynesian. I've never stayed there before. Would the view of the fireworks from there be as good as the Contemporary where you're up high watching from the balcony? I don't think we'd go into the park to avoid the crowds and watch from our balcony.

I actually asked her that on the thread...her response is there but she said they parked the floats from the water pageant there and used those speakers to do the music. Cool huh?!

That is really cool. Sorry I just watched the video I didn't read any of the other posts.

The Poly does NOT have a channel for the music. It's one of the reasons I'd say go out to the beach. They also have champagne for the CL beach.

To answer regarding will something open up? Maybe. Absolutely no way to guess now of course.
I was able to book non CL room TPV room at CR about a week out. We had a Garden room booked just in case but I kept looking for TPV to open up and it did finally. So things open up all the time. But, CL never did open up. Not when I was looking any way. But I didn't watch for a solid year.

Thanks! This is a great video.

The music is that piped in only to the bungalow or can people hear it on the beach? I know at the Contemporary there is a channel on the TV for the music.
Maybe they played it for the late midnight fireworks (we watched those from the park) but it was NOT playing for the early, 6:30 version. We watched from our room, no music. It does play normally, but these aren't normal fireworks

So there might not be any music if I watched from the Contemporary? We'd probably be out of the room for the earlier fireworks

There was not on the 30th in our room. I tuned to the channel and it was airing some stuff from ESPN Sports zone instead. Said Wishes on the label (I guess they haven't updated it to read HEA yet)
I can't say for certain but if they didn't run it for one I do doubt they ran it for the other
The music is different for the 30th/31st so they probably just don't bother to set up the system to pipe in for just those 2 days

Hmm that definitely makes me not want to be at the Contemporary

I will note that the crowds were not bad in the park on the 30th at all. I would suggest just going. Book the dessert party.

That's good to hear. So right now I'm planning the trip (29)Saturday-Tuesday(1) would it be crazy to do a split stay 29-31 and 31-1 to go back over to Epcot for New Years Eve? Originally we had two nights at each hotel, not sure if one night is worth the switch?

If it's crazy I'm certifiable
I just got back from a trip where we did a lot of hopping around
2 nights at FQ (originally planned to come straight to CR but we added on our trip and didn't want to pay the CR rates so we went with FQ)
1 night at CR (30th)
1 night at BWI (31st)
3 nights at FQ

I'd do it again without question too. We got a room at BWI early, before we even got out of bed at CR but we didn't get our room at CR until very late (after 4:00). I'd made our park plans to not need/be in a room until after 4:00 each day so it worked out. Since I had a room at BWI early we just dropped out bags vs. leaving with Bell Services but we didn't alter our plans otherwise. Going back to FQ we had our room about noon.

So I've changed this hotel three times today lol. So I changed it to Poly club level garden view. Is the garden view a smart choice? The room is a lot cheaper than theme park view and if I'm going to watch the fireworks from the beach anyway it doesn't make sense to spend it on that? I'm just wondering if it rained or something I could watch from the room nice and dry or if it's freezing.

One thing that'll suck if I switch to a split stay is I'll have to pay for the room in full since it's just one night and of course I cancelled my Beach Club already so that money hasn't been refunded yet.

But, it's also nice to have it all paid in full too. Especially when a trip so close to the Holiday's.
And you don't have to worry about chasing a promo. There are only about 7 days in the entire year without a promo and they are the 7 days between Christmas and New Years. They'll be full price, period. It hurts but you accept/know that going in. It's part of why we did the 1 night at the CR and 1 night at BWI and then FQ the rest of the time

As for rain, grab rain coats/umbrellas, etc. It was cold this year, not freezing just cool. We layered and bundled up and did just fine. It was not bad and still worth it.
