Hi,
I am going to Disney in May with my DH, DS(5) and DD (3). We are staying at WL. I just changed my reservation to split it 4 nights at WL and 3 night at Poly. Am I crazy switching hotels midtrip?

We had friends staying at Asmu last november who we wanted to spend some time with and I also wanted to try AKL.We ended up staying 4 nights at ASMu and 3 nights at AKL.I have to be honest, having to pack for 4 after 4 days and having to do it again after 2 more days was an absolute nightmare. Will I do it again?? Absolutely!!! Since, you experience 2 different hotels ,it is like having 2 different vacations.I guess the secret is trying to keep everything organized ,so,that it will be easier to pack.Next trip I'm planning 2 days at CSR,3 days AKL and 2 days HRH.

Yes, I'm nuts!!!;)

We split our stays every WDW vacation and never have any problems. This past Christmas we split our stay among 3 hotels! We just like trying the different hotels. My family consists of DH, DS's-12, 15 and myself. For some reason the packing part is never a problem for us. I guess we're just used to it! I say go for it!

We did this last trip (POR and GF) and loved it. It's like going on a completely different trip mid week.

One thing I'd recommend that worked great for us. Pack each resort seperately with one small bag of stuff you'll need at both (toiletries, swim suits etc).

We did ASM (New Year's Eve due to cost), then AKL Sav Conci (2) then Cabins (2). It was great! Like 3 vacations. My DH surprized me and the kids with it as a Christmas Present.

We are thinking about 1 night at the Poly, then 2 at AKL. Is this doable? We are driving, so we could move ourselves, but would Disney moving our suitcases be easier? I want the convenience of the Poly for MK and Epcot, yet am dying to stay at AKL. We'll be doing this short trip after a 7 night DCL cruise.

We always drive, but still let them move the luggage. It is so much easier.

Hi there...

No you are not crazy at all for switching hotels half way through, lots of people do it for many reasons.

Sometimes it is economics... a deluxe for a few nights and a value or moderate.

Sometimes it is just wanting to try different things, be in different areas.

I was booked for 9 nights at AKL this summer and I have stayed there before...so I switched 4 nights to Beach Club because I wanted to try the pool... stormalong just looks so nice.

Last time I switched half way through I requested a day rate to keep my room until 5pm... they charged me $ 99.00 - it was so convenient - and then I didn't have to worry that my new room would not be ready at 11:00am check out.

>>^..^<<

I just changed my ressies not even 30 minutes ago to do this. We had Poly/conceirge booked for four nights. After much thought, it made more sense to stay five nights and switch to a less expensive resort for two days. (My airlines only chg'd. us $3 to chg. our existing airfare!!!). I could not justify another day at the conceirge price. Instead for just about $100 more we'll get another night. We are now doing Poly for 3 nights and AKL/Savannah view for 2 nights.

We were just at Poly in Sept. and AKL last May. We did not feel we get to really experience AKL to it's fullest at the time. Now we can further explore the resort and still experience Poly which we absolutely love. Best of both worlds almost.

I loved the tip on packing seperately. Makes absolutely great sense. I was worried about the hastle of packing/unpacking myself. Though, knowing WDW will move everything (though no guarantee's when your luggage will arrive) seems to make it more bearable.

Glad to hear others have done this and been pleased!

We are doing a three resort stay on our upcoming June trip.
5 nights OKW 2 bdrm
4 nights AKL concierge
4 nights Poly concierge
We have switched resorts only once before going from AKL to OKW and they moved our luggage for us with no problem.
I am really looking forward to all the different atmospheres this time.

The Polynesian is a nice resort, but not as fresh. I would suggest if you want to switch that you take Polynesian first part of trip and AKL at end or you might be let down if you have never stayed at either.

We split once and didn't like it. Especially since we started at AKL and moved to Polynesian. We were let down. Wound up moving to Yatch Club for last couple of days of trip. But that may just be us.

So you'd pick the AKL if doing just one? That is probably what we'll end up doing. I always have to do everything, and no one gets to have any fun for me dragging them around. At least that is what I've been told! I need to go by myself I guess. Then I'd get some serious touring done. I guess instead of switching, I'll concentrate on having all the fun I can at the AKL, and save the Poly for next time. Now to research the best possible room, food, activities, transportation to parks, touring plans, .................:p

But not me....never!

I like to unpack and really move in and settle down when I am at Disney. I don't want to unpack...repack...unpack and repack again that many times in one trip! Unless I am there for maybe a month!

I like to really get the feel of the resort and all it has to offer and some like AKL are so big and spread out it takes time to check everything out properly. Now...that's just my opinion!:D

Absolutely AKL!
It's the best! I didn't want to leave so much and haven't felt that way about a Disney resort in some time and I've done them all multiple times! You'll love it!:bounce:

After doing this in Sept with WL/AKL, I am planning to do this every trip now until I've stayed at least once in all the Deluxe resorts. This may mean moderate/deluxe split or a deluxe/deluxe split like we did last year.

I believe it adds to the experience, agreed there is some mild discomfort when the switching takes place, but none that would be bad enough to stop me doing it.

If I was with a large group or with children, my opinion may change but for Adult or Solo travellers, I would highly recommend this additional way of enjoying WDW!

We split our stay every trip.I hate to waste my vacation club points for more expensive weekend nights, so come Friday we pack up and go to a deluxe. we have no problems, of course we have a washer all week ,so we switch with suitcases full of clean clothes.

Twinmom, I'm going to tattle-tale on you back at the DVC board for "immorally" trying to save points! ;)

We're doing the same thing this trip- one night at BCV (just to give DD a chance to use SAB for two days), then AKL for the weekend, then to WLV for the rest of the week.

We've never switched before, but I don't think it will be a problem. We'll just live out of the suitcases until we get to WLV.

If we were staying in a 1BR suite, I might feel differently. That's like having your own apartment, and it's great to "settle in." Studios are just hotel rooms with a wetbar, though.

Is there a cost to have them move our luggage from one resort to another? We won't have a car so we'd need for them to do it. TIA!
