Changing from CBR to Boardwalk...?

I've booked my holiday with Virgin but would love to change my Disney hotel from the CBR to the Boardwalk for the last week of the holiday. Virgin don't offer the Boardwalk at the moment, I've just rung them to see if they would be able to help me but as they don't currently have a contract with them they can't.

I've e-mailed the FVC to see if they can help, but has anyone had any experience of upgrading hotels upon arrival? I'd rather do it before we travelled as it's a surprise for the missus as she has her birthday during the last week, but if that's the best we can do I'll have to do that.

Anyone got any ideas?

You don't say when you're travelling so it's difficult to know how busy it might be. However, I believe it is certainly possible to upgrade upon arrival if space permits.

Personally, I would like everything to be confirmed in advance. How disappointed would you be if it was full? I'd be tempted to cancel the second week's accommodation with Virgin and re-book directly with Disney or through Dreams Unlimited.
