Changing Diapers while at the parks

I seriously skeeve changing tables...do you think it would be rude of me to change my DS's diapers in his stroller if I take him off to the side where there isn't much pedestrian traffic? Just asking, please no flaming if you don't agree I'm sure we'll be using the changing tables, but just wanted to see other's opinions and if anyone else has ever done this. DS is 22 months

Our son was just over two and I don't think we changed his diapers at all in a diaper changing station. We had our double graco stroller with us. I'd find a secluded spot, turn the stroller away from people, lay the back down and pull the shade down. I'd be surprised if anyone even noticed what the heck we were doing.

I don't think it is a big deal at all to change in a stroller as long as you aren't doing it on a bunch in front of people.

I agree even if you change them in the stroller a rest room would be better than out in the park.

You can also use the Baby Care Centers at each park.

a 2 yr old is awfully big to try and change in a stroller. Use the tables he is big enough to not touch things if you tell him while you are changing him.. If you use the stroller at least push it into the BR because again a 2 yr old is not going to be able to be changed inconspicuously.

We did this too. Changing tables are yuckkyy Like you said just do it in an out of the way area without a lot of people. We've also been known to change DS in the trunk of our car when we're out and about too.

Seems like it would be a little difficult, unless your son can lay down completely in it. But if it does and you stand off to the side and put the little awning down, I doubt anyone would be able to see much.

We just wipe down the changing table before use. We also have other little ones that have to use the toilet and I figure those are worse than the tables.

Thanks everyone. Question - in your opinions, how clean are the changing tables in the bathrooms. I have never used them there before, since this is our DS's first trip. I just know the ones in our local mall are fairly gross.

As long as you're discreet, and considerate of other visitors, I don't see where you change the kid matters. And I'm with you, those fold-down, e-coli laden baby smasher thingys give me the willies, too.

One important caveat: PLEASE take the used diaper to the baby changing stations for disposal instead of throwing it away at the first trash can you see. It's disgusting to be walking down Main Street minding your own business, and be assaulted by THAT smell.

I can't stand seeing people changing diapers right out in the middle of the crowd (my favorite was on a bench next to the safari ride queue so everyone got treated to the odor as they had to stand there), but I also personally find public diaper changing tables kinda...well...I dunno, but even though I don't have kids, I can see where you're coming from. I think it's fine to find an out of the way place where no one else has to "share" the experience with you vs. using the tables, as long as you dispose of everything properly too.

I am with you! I also skeeve changing tables. I myself do not see a problem with changing the diaper in the stroller. It is your stroller. As a mother of 3 (1 plus a set of twins) we did diaper changes in the stroller all the time.

I don't think it's rude to change a diaper in a stroller, as long as you are not in a restaurant, you are off away from other people, and you don't leave the diaper on the bench for someone else to throw away! (not that you would, just another thread I was reading!)

I never worried much about germs in restrooms, but always used a changing pad so I didn't lay my child directly on the changing table. You can get disposable ones, so you don't have to fold it up and take it with you after it's touched the table.

Never used the changing tables myself. As soon as the kids could stand, we mastered the standing diaper change. Just went into a stall. Plus, then you have a toilet handy to flush the stinky stuff and a trash can for the diaper.

It wouldn't personally offend me if you were well out of the way. If you are in a corner where people have to actively go out of their way to see what you are doing then it's more their problem than yours. I agree with going to the baby stations to throw diapers away though.

If it were me I'd use to tables but wipe them down first and then lay something on them so no contact is made with it.

I don’t have a problem with changing tables. Then again, I always wipe them down with a handful of wipes and then lay down a huge oversized disposable changing pad before putting my little ones down. However, I have been known to diaper change in a stroller too; some changing tables are gross and some diaper changes won’t wait (we carry special bags—even biodegradable—for putting in yucky diapers). We just go someplace out-of-the-way, turn our backs to the crowd, stand around the stroller, have the canopy down and change. Even if someone knows what we are doing (and I highly doubt they do), they can’t see anything. Besides, I do fast diaper changes!

Just be considerate and move away from people.

I've done plenty of stroller diaper changes myself. I always make sure we are completely away from others and the action. Then dh and my older dd stand on the sides to block anyones view in case someone walks by. We always carry bags to put dirty diapers in to throw away. It does get tricky when they are bigger if they've gone #2. If it's too messy I make my way to a changing table and lay down a blanket on it.

I'm going to be in the minority here. I think it's not really pleasant. If you were in a bind or couldn't find a bathroom, fine. But as a rule, toileting functions are best left to toileting areas. There are family bathrooms that you could push your stroller in to. Also, there are baby care centers that have less gross changing tables.

At 22 months, we changed our kids standing up if the changing table skeeved us out. At Disney, the changing tables in the regular bathrooms are fixed -- not the Koala kind that are in most places.

We've had both our boys at Disney several times in diapers. We often used the family bathrooms or the baby care centers (which mostly have paper lined changing tables).
