Changing cruise reservation?

Well we booked using points (I know, I know... bad use, etc.. but it works for us.) a cruise for this November. Well DH lost his job and thankfully got a new one but may not be able to get off for the cruise. I read that the points get put back into the use year in which the vacation is booked, so use year 2009. So my question is this, could I rebook for anytime during the rest of 2009 and the first part of 2010? Our use year is October. Thanks in advance for all of your help with this one. You guys are the greatest.

Technically, you have converted your points to "Reservation Points" and they can not be used to book stays at a DVC resort. You can still use them to book another cruise though. You would have to pay an additional $95 transaction fee and you can use them to cruise in 2010.
