Changing clothes after a race?

Hi everyone. This is probably a silly question but the WDW Half in January will be my first Run Disney (or any) event.

If we decide to go into Epcot for a short while after the finish where does everyone change clothes/freshen up?

I mean if you do not get the Race Retreat.

Thank in advance as always,

Lisa

Most people I know will just change in the post-race area after getting their bag from bag check. They have friends hold up their Mylar blankets around them, change, and then head through the tent out to the parking lot meeting area.

And where are they getting the mylar blankets? I've seen them, but haven't seen anyone getting them. At the Retreat after the Half a woman sitting at my table saw them at the massage area, and was told quite sternly that they were ONLY for those getting massages.

OP if you're going into Epcot, I'd change there in a restroom, honestly.

I've always been given one at the finish line along with my medal. I keep them and bring them to other races to use to keep warm before the start. Much easier to travel with than sweats.

:( I haven't gotten one. I haven't seen anyone else getting them. Maybe it's a faster-runner thing. :(

I've changed into new clothes at the restrooms just inside Epcot near Spaceship Earth. There were one or two other people doing the same, but no big sweaty crowds or lines of people.

Thanks everyone! Epcot restrooms it will be. I'm not getting the retreat for myself, just the platinum chear for dh since he'll have ds 2 yoa with him. And if the blankets are a fast runner thing I won't be on the lookout for one either :).

Thanks!!

Lisa

I received one in January after running the Tinkerbell Half and I'm not at all a fast runner. They were handing them out just past where they were handing out the medals.

We got those mylar blankets at the full marathon this year but not in 2013,I'm sure the high of 83-84 degrees in 2013 had something to do with that.

I saw them the first half I did in Disney a few years ago and then never saw them again.

I would change in the bathrooms too. Then when you get into Epcot you can freshen up in a REAL bathroom.

I could have used one even at TOT last year. I'm hot hot hot then once I stop and change I get cooooold. I was wearing the hoodie DH and DS bought me while I was running, had my long socks on (compression socks before I knew I liked compression socks!), and was still shivery.

Talking about compression socks and compression leg sleeves,we had about 600 people turn out for our run club on national running day and they had basically a mini expo with the big turn out,the Zensah booth was giving out those compression leg sleeves to try on during the run and I really liked it.Never wore them before but I think I'll be buying a couple for my runs coming up,they definitely also have to help if I get a run with cold temps.

Glad you got to try them out!

I like running in shorts or a running skirt, but my calves really do love the compression. Sure, it looks odd to my eyes still, but I'm comfy! I actually wear the socks; my ankles don't like the squeezing of the sleeves. All I've tried is CEP brand, though.

Back to the subject...the compression socks are the hardest thing to change after a run!

I can't imagine going to a park right after a race because I just feel so gross after! :crazy2: I'm a salty sweaater and it's hard to feel clean without a shower. Id rather take the time to go back to my hotel.

However, I have traveled 1-2 hours for races before and did not have a shower as an option. I've discovered that packing some baby wipes in my checked bag really helps!

I do agree, but for me so far it's been the parties after, like the party after TOT. In November it will be the party after W&D.

In August, however, not sure what we're going to do after the DL Half, but I know I'm having breakfast and I'm not sure how much time I'll have between finishing and eating. I'm going prepared for the restaurant/hotel bathrooms to be my changing, though...

It seems with the party going on until 330 you have plenty of time, but if you finish at midnight, then go through the lines, catch the bus, shower, change, catch the bus back, it will be 330. Just think, everyone else stinks as well!!

The first year we did the ToT run, I didn't change clothes after the 10 miler and man was it gross. I had fun, but I really wish I changed. Last year I changed afterwards and it was well worth it. If you're going out to the parks after a race, please change!

After W & D, I just walked to the restrooms above Soarin. There are a zillion of them. Strip in a large stall wash with wipes and the sink in the andicap stall. And put on fresh clothes. Must easier and faster than returning to my room. Once I see that bed...there will be no returning to Epcot. I did ride Soarin with someone who still had their clothes on from running and it was not a pleasant ride at all!!

For Tower of Terror, there was an after party. So I bag-checked a change of clothes and some wet-wipes and went to the changing tent to change. Yuck! It was SO hot in the changing tent, I sweated more there than I did on the race course! I know a lot of people changed in the restrooms, and while I understand why (not as hot) it also made the lines for the restroom SO long, which was frustrating.
I think this year I might change in the restroom too, but I will feel bad if there is a huge line.

After Princess, I just went back to my room on the bus and showered/changed.

ToT is a very hot sweaty race,I finished looking like I had jumped into a pool, went into a bathroom and changed, threw some water in my face and I was like a new person. For the full marathon in January even though it was 16 more miles and ended under the sun I was sweating less than half of what I did at ToT.I did go back to my hotel after the full marathon but went to eat at the food court before going back to the room because even though I was dirty and a bit stinky it was far from the drenched feeling after ToT which required me changing clothes asap.
