Hi all, I’m sure this has been answered many times before but I didn’t see any recent threads so I thought I’d make a post.

We’re planning a trip in March. Our 7 month window is coming up in August and I was wondering if it makes sense to book at our home resort just in case and then change to one of the others at 7.

If I do this, is there anything I need to do with my points? Like do I need to cancel my home resort reservation first before I make my other one? Thanks in advance and sorry for asking something that’s probably been asked a lot.

My recommendation is to always book a room at your home resort and then make the change at 7 months. You never know what is going to happen with room inventory and you want to make sure you have a place to stay. I usually just do the modification online and the new room I'd picked up the same time the old room is dropped.

No, don't cancel your home resort reservation. When you click on it you'll see there's an option to modify it. You can make the new reservation then, and it only releases the old reservation once the new one is confirmed.
I also agree with Bearval that if you plan a trip, book it at your home resort in the 11 month window, then if you see something else you want available at 7 months, modify the reservation.

Thank you. So to be clear you can just modify your reservation to the new hotel at the 7 month window.

Got it, thanks!

To add, if you’d consider a split stay, book your home resort that way so that you can modify some of it based on availability.

I do this all the time because we do like them every trip.

When you book all nights in one, in order to split stay later, you would have to drop nights to pick up ones available.

But if you want all at a differet resort, then it’s easy to do by the modifications listed above subject to availability of course!

I would simply say that I would book home resort UNLESS you had specific travel plans that made that silly - example, you own Aulani and are looking at a WDW trip. No point in home resort booking.
