Changing ADR to a smaller party

I will be making my ADR's in about a month. My question is I am a family of 4, however my parents and brother may decide to come too. If I make the reservation for 7 and they then decide they aren't going to go can I change the reservation to 4 without cancelling and re-booking. I know I can leave the reservation and only show up as a party of 4 without incurring a fee, but I don't want to hold what could potentially be another 4 top table from another family.

If you would like to, you can try at the time to book another reservation for 4, but if you can't, don't even bother to change it, just go without them and say you are now 4.

I get that you don't want to deny someone else the opportunity, but you can't just change the number of people on the reservation. You have to cancel and rebook.

The exception would be anything you prepaid for, like CRT or a dinner show - call and have them removed from those as soon as you know they will not be coming.
