We are looking at going to WDW with my DSIL and her family sometime next year. The 2 options right now are May and Dec 2011. Because we are already within the 11 month mark for May and I want to get the THV, I'm wanting to get the resort reserved soon. Problem is that I'm having a hard time getting DSILs family together so that we can decide on what will work best with them. We have to work around a summer family reunion at DLR, DSIL's work and time off plus the twins' college schedules so really....we need them to all sit down to figure out what will work.

The problem is that my UY is June. So.....the May trip will require borrowing points. I know that we will have it all figured out in the next month or two which means that I'll still have time to cancel and bank points. My question is that when the borrowed points are canceled, they go into this years point allotment (correct??) so does that mean that I will be able to bank them into next year so that we can use them in December or will we lose those points if not used by June?

Borrowed points can not be banked. You must use them in the UY that you borrowed them into or they will be forfeited.

With a June UY, a May 2011 trip will take place in your June 2010 UY. If you borrow 2011 points to book that trip and then cancel, you will still have to use those points by May 31st, 2011.

You can not then use them for a Dec 2011 trip, as that takes place in your June 2011 UY.

Traveling at the end of the UY with borrowed points is always risky and I would only do that if you are 100% positive you will be going. I know that the treehouses go fast and you need the 11 month window, but if there is still a chance you will want to switch to Dec, I would not use borrowed points as those will be lost.

Thank you. I was afraid of that but wanted to make sure so that I could let DSIL know that we need to nail down a date and if they do choose May, we are locked in and cannot change it.
