Changing a reservation

I have a trip planned in December for 6 people. My son just told me he may not be able to go due to a work situation. I have not made my final payment yet, so if he cancels before that I am ok. What are my choices if he cancels after final payment is made? Can I keep him on the reservation? What happens to his ticket? Thanks.

You can keep him on the reservation.
His ticket will remain new and usable by ANYONE on this or a future trip.
 
We're facing the exact same situation. We have a party of 12 with 3 separate reservations of 4. But we have one member that might decide not to go. Our payment deadline is looming and we're not sure whether or not to modify the reservation or not.
I just called one of the many WDW numbers I found on the main website and was told that I can get a full refund on that one person even after the we've made final payment and past the 45 day deadline. Is that correct? We'd still have a party of at least 3 attending on that reservation.
For some reason I was thinking that the deadline is the deadline and that we'd be out at least *some* money if we have a person cancel closer to the arrival date.

However, expect to pay a penalty fee for doing so.

Thanks. I don't want to cancel him, but I didn't want to pay a penalty either. I will just keep him on the reservation and hope he can go. Thanks again.
