Changing a reservation if/once new discounts come out ... easy?

hello,

We are looking to do a vacation at WDW the last week in August.

Last year there were room only Annual Pass and Disney Visa card holder room only discounts for that time (both of which I have). Can I book something now and if/when they offer those discounts in the future easily change my reservation to a discounted one? Or would it be basically like creating a new one and canceling the initial one?

basically, I want to go using one of those room only discounts but don't want until those discounts come out as it would be after the 180 adr window starts, etc.

Thanks!

I do this all the time using my AAA discount on room only reservations before discounts are released. In fact, am doing it now.
Last week I already changed 1 reservation, which they just changed.
It is easy. I've changed from room only to free dining when it was released before.
The only caviat is the availability factor on what you want so call early if a discount becomes available, or be ready to take a different room class if necessary (like garden instead of standard - this is usually what happens to me)

Changing promotions is relatively simple, you call and it's a quick change over.

I will provide the warning that not all rooms qualify for all promotions so you can end up with having to book a different room or hotel with the new promo. If you are flexible with things there are still some good deals to be had.

Good luck!

As the pp's said, you can apply a discount to an existing reservation as long as what you have booked is available under the discount. Sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort and/or room type as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied. Also, if you change reservation types (go from RO to package or vice versa) the first reservation will have to be cancelled/refunded and a new reservation booked, requiring a new deposit ($200 for a package or 1 night's room rate + tax for RO). Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other.

I am planning on booking a Room Only in July for our November 2015 stay... I'm hoping to hit Free Dining or a decent RO discount for when we go & will make the needed adjustments when/if those deals are released. My questions is: How is the refund, if necessary, handled when the deposit on a RO reservation is done using a Disney Gift Card? Do they just send me a new GC for the deposit amount?

THANKS!!!

The refund will be made back to the original payment, so you will need to keep the gift card(s) you use as the money will be go back on that just like a credit would go back to a cc.

Does anyone know...if your existing reservation needs to be changed due to the newer promotion, can your vacation insurance be transferred if you've already purchased it? I understand they can refund your deposit and recharge you, but I seem to remember something about insurance not being refundable???

THANKS!!! I'll make sure I keep the card (& note what I used it for!) after I make the reservation. Thanks again!! :thumbsup2

I think the insurance is forfeited and has to be re-purchased if you cancel/rebook, but I'm not 100% sure as we never get the insurance. Hopefully someone who has had experience with that will be able to answer for sure :flower3:.

You're welcome :goodvibes.

YIKES!!!:scared1:

So how do most of you handle this?

Book 200 days out, get ADR's, watch specials and then rebook if it works?

Do you book room only or everything including dining plan if you are willing to pay for the dining plan regardless of promos that become available?

Do you lose your ADR's? Or are they only tied into your disney login info?

Not trying to hijack the thread, but after searching this thread seems to be closest to the info I am trying to figure out.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I don't think they put insurance on RO do they? Just packages? In which case it could just be modified without canceling. If they do put it on RO and you need to cancel/rebook I believe you can ask for GR and they'll help you put since you're rebooking, but I'm 90% sure it's just for packages since you can cancel a RO so close to the date.

ADRs stay regardless of what you do.

I personally book what I want if I'm going regardless of what comes out. If you book a room only and end up wanting the DP you'd have to cancel/rebook into a package. It's in a pain money wise since the deposit won't transfer. If you know you want a package I'd book that right off the bat.

Thank you SO Much! Just the reassurance I needed. I thought I had it figured out, but then hubby made me second guess.:thumbsup2
