changing a DING - this wasn't easy for oneway

First I booked an internet fare of $89 each way MHT-MCO roundtrip - fine.

Then a DING came out for $74. each way, got a credit of $60.00

Then today a DING came out for $58.00 but only available for my outbound, so I tried to change it online which you cannot do unless it's for roundtrip.

I called SW after I booked the DING, charged the one way for both of us to my credit card, but no credit issued for future travel BECAUSE the return was not available for the $58.00 and if I cancelled the $74.00 fare, they would auto cancel my return as well. Huh?

So - they tell me I am holding both fares and when I travel on my outbound, to pull the BP's under the new conf# ($58.) and pull my return under the old one ($74. fare) and once my outbound is completed, the travel credits for the outbound ($74.) will be issued in my SW "bank".

So my point is unless the DING's are available both ways and you want to make a change....this is how it has to be done according to SW - this was not easy to do by myself, because you cannot cancel a DING online.

I really hope this agent knows what's she's telling me to be true, because right now it cost me more money to make a change to a lower fare. She tells me it's all in the system in my record and should have no trouble getting credit once the outbound flight is completed.

I hope I make sense and this helps someone about to make a change oneway to their ressies.

That's why on Southwest it is best to book separate one-way fares for all segments. So if you get a discount in the future on only one segment, it is easy to change.

thanks, I wish had known that before I had booked, good to know for future travel. :thumbsup2

So if you book only "one ways" (going and coming back), do you chance having more trouble with not being able to do online checkin for your boarding passes due to heightened security issues? I hope my question makes sense.

I fly Southwest at least 1-2 times a month, and always book "one ways" for both of my tx. I have never had a problem in the last 14 months printing my boarding pass 24 hrs ahead. I have never been denied "on-line" printing of my boarding passess for security reasons, with one way tx.

I noticed that the dings are always changing. I recently had a ding fare so I changed it from $79 to $66. For 5 tickets, every little bit adds up. Then 2 days later had to change it again to a $44 ding. What is up with that? Why is SW changing the fares. The fares are wilder then the rain we have been getting here in the NE. First no rain for weeks then 10 inches. Then no rain.

I did not have as much trouble as the op as I always book one leg at a time. This way when a ding comes up you just change the one at a time. Rarely do get your dings to work together.
