We have a reservation for a 2BR unit at OKW August 31-September 5. We were going to go with another family...2 adults and 2 children. Through no fault of their own, they cannot go.

We are trying top get some other friends to take the reservation, but my question is, would there be any way to change the reservation and not lose the points this close to the actual reservation date?? I know they do not have to do anything, but has anyone ever had the experience where they have taken pity on you and "bent" the rules a smidge?????

Your points would not be lost, but the unused points would go into "holding" status, meaning they could not be banked and they could only be used for ressies made 60 days out or less. That is assuming a one bedroom is available for your dates. Of course, if you have a September use year, you may be sunk.

Of course we have a September Use Year.

I may have to throw myself on the mercy of the DVC!!!! ;)

Maybe you could request a lock-out unit, and rent out the studio half on the rent/trade board? There would be some risk involved, because the occupants of the studio would technically be guests on your reservation, but if you rented to a long-time DISboard member, you'd probably be OK. I actually had a situation at another resort (not DVC) where I rented out half of a lock-out unit when I had hoped some extended family members could join me but they couldn't. The rental worked out fine. I had my renters sign a contract saying that they would be responsible for any damage to the room, phone calls billed to the room, etc. You can get a sample rental contract at www.tstoday.com (the website of Timesharing Today magazine.)

You will only be able to change to what's available. You could transfer, use otherwise or rent any unused points but you don't have much time. Even if you have a lockoff 2 BR reserved, you cannot just drop the other half. It's a cancellation and rebooking and subject to availability and the wait list.

We have offered it to DSIL & DBIL and are waiting for their reply. if not, there is another couple we are friendly with who we could offer it to.

Truthfully, I don't feel particularly comfortable renting to strangers. I don't want to be responsible for what others, who I do not know, might do.

If we can't find anyone to go, I may just try and throw myself on the mercy of the DVC or just keep the 2BR. I have a DSIL in Florida on the east coast, about 1.5 hors from WDW...she might want to come up for a couple of days and use it and visit with us.

We're in the same situation for October. We got the 2BR thinking that one of our relatives would join us, but so far, no one is coming. I still have the offer out to one uncle and will try again with another if that doesn't work. I really was hoping someone would join us. We've not had guests at WDW since 2003. :confused3

I've actually considered renting out the studio portion, but I'm pretty sure dh would not go for it. I know there are lots of people who would love to have a studio during F&W at BWV. Hope you find a solution!

Rememb, if you rent the studio portion of a lock-off unit, since they are still one reservation, they are keyed alike...they will have a key to your room.

I would think if they have a September UY, then only the points for 8/31 are in jeopardy. Keep that night as a 2BR and see if a 1BR is available for the rest of the stay at any of the resorts. They'll still have until 8/31/07 to use any holding points.

It depends on how MS system works...as points are considered "spent" on the first day of a ressie, it depends upon how they handle a ressie that is linked. When a ressie crosses a use year boundry, it essentially two ressies, but then they are linked so they are handled as a single ressie.

remember if they bend the rules for you somebody on the waitlist gets burned. Therefore why have a waitlist. We need these rules to equal things out.

why not call and try to extend your trip if nothing else can be done.

good luck :cool1:

Well, my guess is that they wouldn't bend the rules for me if someone else was going to get burned. I am sure that if they had no 1BRs available free and clear, without negatively affecting someone on the waitlist, to change my reservation to, then they wouldn't.

I'm Disney Doll, not Madonna! ;)
