Changes to UK train schedules from Southampton

For those thinking of taking the train to/from the port of Southampton to/from the London area, including the major airports, train operator Southern Railway has announced some changes to their schedule, effective June 3rd... most notably

• The hourly departure between Southampton and London via Gatwick airport will be discontinued. The trip will remain possible with a stop and change of train at Barnham station
• The fastest trip between Southampton and London, operated every 30 minutes by SouthWestern Railway is not impacted by this change and remains probably the best option.

All that to say, the impact will be mostly felt by those booking between Gatwick and Southampton as they now have to change trains. Those heading right into London likely would have chosen the faster service on SouthWestern anyway.
