Changes to the Wonder in Drydock - Some Info

Well, I'm sure it will be incredible regardless of the changes they make. Our first cruise isn't until Jan 2017, (on the Wonder) but we have already made count down calendars, lists, and compiling tips (15 pages worth) lol. My boys and I are super excited!!!

I'm pretty sure I read some info that the person who just sailed to Alaska posted during his live twitter report -- am I allowed to paste it here? Someone posted his name/account in the Tracey Arm excursion thread. Not sure if he's a member here on the DIS and if he'd be posting the info himself, so I didn't want to step on any toes...

Here's the Tracey Arm thread where the twitter account is listed:

So no aquadunk or aqua duck?
I think they need the ducktail to counter-balance the slide - and they can't add the ducktail to the Wonder or she won't fit through Panama Canal. They need the one ship to be able to squeeze through until the Canal expansion is completed.

The new canal should be opening very soon - June 26th I think. I know they are having issues with it, but Disney won't need to go back through post dry dock until the WBPC in 2017... I am not convinced that is why they scrapped it. I'm also not Disney or anything mind you! :)

I'm just thinking they might not want to commit to it ahead of time by announcing it and then God forbid something happens with the canal, now they can't get through. They can always "surprise" us and do it once they know for sure the canal is open and operational (apparently there wasn't enough water to raise the level of the lake?).

You could be right, but I would think they would have already had to design it in - it takes awhile to get plans approved. Maybe that (or a different slide) are yet to be announced, but I don't think they'd take a wait and see this close to the dry dock date.

I wonder if the 'secret' area on deck 7 will be converted to staterooms like on the Magic?

Unfortunately, since they're doing an Aqua Lab area, similar to the one on the Magic, then they will need the secret area on Deck 7. Bummer.

The secret deck on deck 7 (on the Magic) wasn't converted to staterooms. It now houses the mechanics for the AquaDunk and AquaLab.

I also wonder if by leaving off the duck tail, even when the new portion is opened, keeping the Wonder the original size allows more flexibility when scheduling the cruises through there (if left unmodified, they will be able to use either the old or the new locks - assuming the old ones will still be used).

I'm definitely waiting on this one too. I'm hoping they keep the deck 7 area as it is for extra viewing area in Alaska.

Curious if Frozen will replace Pirate Night?
I love Pirate Night but would really welcome something as an alternative to it having done it a few times now. Since the fireworks aren't permitted in Alaska and they are such a big piece of Pirate Night on other cruises I personally think the Alaska cruises are the right opportunity to offer and another theme. What if they did Pocahontas night in honor of the respect for mother nature? Alaska is such a great backdrop for that. Just throwing out a crazy thought...

Deck 7 is where the new emergency power generator is located. The duck tale principal fonction is to lower the frictions with the water due to the extra weight. This generator is a direct effect of what happened with that Carnival ship lost at sea a few years ago. That same emergency generator was installed on the Magic three years ago.

They already don't do Pirate night on the Alaska cruises. They added Pixar night and, recently, Freezing the Night Away.

Oh! I didn't know that! How FUN!!!! I would LOVE pixar night! We went on the Dream the first year they launched Halloween on the High Seas my son came dressed on a homemade Wall-E costume that was freestanding with tread tires and light up eyes. He would hop out of it and we would prop it up so people could pose with the costume. And as far as freezing the night away I can't get enough Frozen.

Ok, I am just giddy with excitement over Tiana's! Is is safe to say that on the menu you will find hot beignets? upload_2016-6-3_18-6-29.jpeg
