CHANGES TO PHOTOPASS & CD - disappointing

I found photopass to be a wonderful service while we were there. In some cases, it saved vacation pics that didn't turn out on my own camera. However, the removal of the enhancements and embellishments is having me rethinking my plan to use PhotoPass since the enhancements were a great selling point for me and my family. Hopefully, a compromise can be come up with that keeps Disney and the paying customers happy.

Anyone know what it would cost to have the pictures printed in the park from the Photo Pass with the embellishments.? I have always ordered on line from the photo pass site. Our last trip Nov 05, we ordered 7 5x7 and it cost $58.95. Getting the cd with all the pictures would have been a good deal for $99.00, but without the embellishments there just pictures that someone else could take with my camera, the only reason I was using the photo pass is because I'm never in any of the pictures and for the $99.00, we could have photo pass take many pictures without all the parks.

Oh man - what a disappointment. I was planning on buying the CD but not now. I will simply ask people or even the photopass people to take pictures with my own camera.

keishashadow: a friend of mine did this and it looks great! I will proabably now order this with only a couple of photopass pictures.

I've never given the photopass people my own camera but I think I will from now on.

Oh this is really bad news. We did the photopass cd in april and loved it - we got 150 photos for $99 with half having borders and signatures and things. And that was just one day's worth of photos! We are going again in september and I'm thinking now we won't bother with the photopass...anyone know if the borders can be added after you get home? Any chance if we write to disney they will change their mind??? You know I was there when universal stopped honoring the entertainment coupon (which is a whole other saga and situation!) but I wrote them and probably alot of people did and they changed their policy to accept the coupon again instead of charging for it. Maybe everyone on the DIS could write them???

I'm really disappointed, too! :sad2: The last time we were at WDW, the PhotoPass was new (so no CD available) and I spent a small fortune on pictures. I really wanted to buy the CD with signatures/borders etc, to save all my photos getting destroyed in my luggage on the way home!

I think either "self-service" kiosks at WDW or the facility to add these special features at home is a wonderful idea! :thumbsup2

BTW, on another note, the photos were really good quality and arrived (all the way to Scotland) within 2 weeks of ordering! ;)

I know that at the parks, one package they have is 3 5X7s for $30.00.
We just got that package 2 weeks ago. We paid for 3 different pics because I really loved those 3 & I wanted the borders/signatures added on.

Then, we purchased the whole cd for $99.00.

Just a question from a newbie who is going in 28 days-what is a photopass CD? Thank-you!

thanks, that's a big difference in pricing, I'll have to decide whether to get the cd now without the borders.

Wow-I guess we just made it!! We were there in April & purchased the CD with
approx 100 photos with some borders & signatures added. It was nice to get
pictures with all 4 of us as I usually take the pictures. I probably would not
buy it again if no borders or sig's are included.

Ok...I seem to be in the minority but it doesn't make a huge difference to me that they have removed the embellishment possibility. I probably would have gotten some if they were still available but my main reason for doing the CD was to have lots of photos of the whole family and get a variety of ones of the different divisions of the family-kids, adults, grandparents etc.. I will actually be in more than 3 vacation photos (which is a MAJOR benefit) and I think we will have a much nicer variety of pictures that I would maybe take myself. I know I could give my camera to the photopass people but I don't mind paying for the service-not to mention saving the space on my camera for all the candids I want. I figure they know how to get the best shots with the camera they are used to and they can also pose us in the ways that work the best. I read on another thread that they will still allow the one with the hands cupped and then Tinkerbell is placed in there and I would kinda like that one if I can get it but I prefer my pictures plain without borders and other business. (Yes, all my kids pictures at studios are on white or black backgrounds and occasionally I let them go crazy and use grey ot tan-never any of the 'embellishments' or fancy backgrounds the studios like to use) I do think $99 is pretty steep but I guess guess Disney feels like it is the best price for what they are offering and if people will pay it.....

Just my two cents.......

Yes, the borders are cute and fun to have. HOWEVER.....When I went to get my CD it was'nt like I got to choose what photo, where, what was on there, I was at the mercy of the CM. He was going so fast throught the photos clicking and choosing and saving, I paniced, I did'nt know I would still have the original plain photo AND the newly saved one. I only used one of the embellished ones because I was'nt happy with where he put everything and what HE chose to put on the photos.
So "why buy the pass"? you ask? "I can put my own photos on a CD at costco" I heard. Well, not only were the photos better than mine were (and I stood right behind the guy and used my zoom and flash etc) Here's the point. my whole family was in them including me. I'm never in them because I'm taking the photo. If I ask the CM to do it did they zoom in right?, did it take them 2-3 minutes to learn my camera?, I compared and the photo pass photos were better. The tinkerbelle, simba and stitch things are all on there, they don't put them in. The borders are nice but will taking them away make me NOT buy the CD? Nope. that was not the selling point for me,.

AGAIN.....
just my two cents.

I am with Zanne and Scrappy...I don't think I would like the borders. My reason for thinking of buying the CD - being able to get the pictures in 4X6 for my scrapbook - saving space on my camera card and My Mom and I are going to split the cost.

Anyone have problems uploading the pictures to an online service to purchase 4X6s (ie shutterfly?)

I also noticed that the PhotoPass pics were always better than the ones that me or my brother took with my camera. In some cases, an unsteady hand or bad angle meant the picture didn't turn out like I would have hoped. That was not the case with PhotoPass. I do agree that the enhancements were a nice bonus, but taking them away doesn't change my opinion on PhotoPass. That said, I sure hope they're looking at a way to bring them back.

It kind of sucks. I know I wouldn't like the embellishments on all the photos but a few would be nice, esp the ones with the kids.

Now for $99. I am thinking I might not get it.

I was looking forward to buying the CD with the borders :sad2:

some folks spend an enormous amount of time going through each photo, cropping, borders, signatures...... each new border ties up more CM time, and increasing the wait time for the other folks at County Bounty, trying to buy the 3 picture package of their little princess with the Princesses..
Brain really pegged what is happening and why the changes were made

Okay...I dont consider myself computer illiterate but am I missing something here? Dont you get the CD with your pictures on it....and doesnt this allow you to download them into your computer? Many online photo stores have the ability to add border (free) to your pictures after you upload them. And isnt there some kind of software that allows you to do that also? Am I missing something?

I have been looking into buying this for our upcoming trip and honestly...the thought of standing there and going through all those pictures while I am at DISNEYWORLD kind of bummed me out, too time consuming and I there are limited places to do it and sometimes you have to wait in line.......I know alot of people like doing that stuff but not me, not on vacation..........

Vella - I think people are bummed they can't get the "Disney" borders and signitures.

I have a question - If Mom and I each have a photopass card - and I come home can I somehow get all pictures from both cards on one CD?

:wave2: When we went last summer, we had about 5 photopass cards!
LOL! :rotfl2: The photographers had to keep giving us new ones because the card we had would stop working (something to do with having them close to credit cards and magnets). Anyway, when I logged into the photopass site, it displayed all the pics from all the cards together. I'm not sure how that would work on the cd, though.
