Changes to MK Wishes dessert party-Same Day Reservations

How well can "Celebrate the Magic" be seen from the Wishes Dessert Party or what use to be the Wishes FP area? It Is the main thing our family is interested in.

Are there any places that we can go to be able to see all of this without having to pay for a dessert party or line up 60-90 minutes before the show??? I don't need "prime" location or anything, just a view... On July 3rd... Without being crushed... Or stepped on... Is that too much to ask?!?! Lol

I like watching the fireworks from New Fantasyland. Anywhere from the old location of Dumbo to BOG puts you immersed in the fireworks. Behind you, the castle explodes with them. They also appear over the Beasts Castle and at the ending they appear to completely surround you from 7DMT and 360 degrees around.

The only downside, is you totally miss Tink's flight and the castle projections.

I like watching the fireworks from New Fantasyland. Anywhere from the old location of Dumbo to BOG puts you immersed in the fireworks. Behind you, the castle explodes with them. They also appear over the Beasts Castle and at the ending they appear to completely surround you from 7DMT and 360 degrees around.

The only downside, is you totally miss Tink's flight and the castle projections.

Thanks! On July 3rd.... to avoid the masses, missing Tink and the projections might have to be the trade off.... I think DH and I will be able to see the fireworks earlier in the week, and I bet DS won't care one bit!

I've never been there those dates. But I usually park myself by the Fence of 7DMT where it's directly across from the bridge of BoG. Now that my secret is out, lol, "my" spot won't be vacant anymore.

Aaaah. So that's why they stopped FP for wishes, to essentially sell the same experience but with a cupcake thrown in.

Honestly --- when it comes to Disney, it takes ALOT to get me pissed, but this is ridiculous !! So, they basically did away with the wishes FP to make more money !!?? So glad (after the last Wishes dessert party price increase) that we started doing "Pirate and Pals" instead !!! Much better ... Just my .02

I hope so. That makes a lot more sense. At least dessert party people won't have to cross Main Street to get there. And I just didn't see any way they could fill both of those areas.

I think reading this thread has convinced me to cancel our reservation. I'll buy a bunch of junk food and pig out with my kid from the contemporary observation deck. I'll read some reviews first though, I guess. If I had known they were going to do this I would have done a cruise or something instead.

So after thinking about it a bit, I'm going to jump in and defend the mouse. Just a little.

it is true the Desert Parties sell out, and fast. Whether they are are good value or not, they sell out and it's hard to get reservations for them even at 180 days (or however long out you can get them). So there's a demand. And it seems reasonable for Disney, if there is an unmet demand, to try to cater to that demand.

What we're basically arguing here is that Disney should deny people the chance to pay for something they want, so people who have already established they do not want to pay have no negative consequence. That's like saying a restaurant that has patio seating should allow people who are not eating there to take up al their tables -- heck, why don't they just let everyone into CP for the character parade. Or let everyone in BOG to meet the Beast and look around. They've established that certain experiences at the park cost more, and we all sign up with that understanding in mind. So maybe this isn't the money grab as much as it is about letting some people buy something they want.

But people ARE paying to "eat" at Disney. One day admission to the MK is over $100.

I have and had no issue with them holding a dessert party in an eating area not being used by paying guests.

My issue is with them taking heavily used viewing space away from the public areas of the park to use for their upsell experience.

I rather watch Wishes from my resort. I can hear the music fine and less crowds. I will not spend that kind of money for a few treats and to see the fire works.

Haven't done the dessert party. I had assumed desserts were DURING the fireworks, but apparently not if same day purchaser's will eat first then leave for viewing. Was the Plaza Garden just open area previously, or roped off or restricted somehow?

When we attended a spread of desserts was available before, they remained out / available during fireworks but we're not replenished. I'm thinking they will have to either add another dessert bar or replenish quickly / more if they are expanding the availability. Not to mention the time involved navigating the crowds to get from TT over to the garden area for viewing...

This is actually DHs favorite spot. I've always preferred viewing from cadets corner but last trip they didn't (wouldn't) lower the umbrellas & we barely saw glimpses through the trees scrunched up over by the garbage cans...

i have reservations for my 21yo old daughter, my 88 year old mom and myself in June. The only reason I booked it was because they had done away with the FP viewing. My mom is in a wheelchair and no matter where we go on Main Street all she can see are peoples backs and butts. She got to see Wishes one time from the FP viewing area and actually saw most of the fireworks (there will always be that one person who has to throw their kids on their shoulders and ruin it for everyone behind them). I am going to wait for more reports on how this is going before I make a decision on whether to keep the DP reservation. I hate giving Disney more money for a bad view and bad desserts, but I also hate for my mom to be crammed into a HUGE crowd with absolutely no view. And, no, we can't go behind the castle....she wants to be in front and also see CTM and the MSEP.

I get that, but they aren't denying anyone the chance to watch the fireworks, they are just offering one of many desirable spots to those who choose to pay more. Because those people are out there, with three $20s in their hand and ready to spend it. And you could make the case that those people now going to the party area are now out of the competition for other viewing spots. And now, instead of this area vanishing at 60 days out, people have the opportunity (maybe) to get a spot on the day they are actually at the park.
