Changes to Kilimanjaro Safaris coming

I never liked this ride.

If they'd train the CMs to really know a lot about the animals, they could do away with that annoying storyline and have a really interesting ride.

The animals don't move much more in winter than in summer. Although one time I saw the lion stand up and lie back down!

How'd you get so lucky? The most I got, was the he turned his head, away from us, of course. But seriously, I enjoy seeing the animals, they are beautiful.

I somewhat agree. I am not a huge fan of the ride. I think the storyline (for me personally) sort of ruins it. I think that many like it, and that's fine but, for my personal taste, I'd like to go through there and hear detailed information about the animals. They do it at first and as the attraction goes on and on and on the story becomes bigger and bigger.

I know they do it for entertainment but, I'd like to replace the storyline with MORE details.

Tell me about the African Plains more. Tell me the temperature these animals live in. Tell me how these animals would interact with one another on a single plain such as the one you are on during the ride. Tell me more more more more more.

Also, if you are going to have a storyline, I think it could be better than this one. Im sure something more creative could be done.

Yes, I think they DEFINATELY need to change the story line. That Big Red/Little Red thing has run its course. We all know there are bad people doing bad things in the world. But we are on vacation, so please let forget about that stuff for awhile.

BTW, I was lucky on our last trip to find that lion moving around on the safari's second trip of the day.

Let's get some of the animals charge the vehicles or have the lions be able to get past the boundries. That would spice things up a little bit. :) Although during the summer I would probably stay on their air conditioned rock and just watch people go by as well.

:rotfl:

We love the safari but have always wished the Red story would just go away. We had bets it wouldn't last a month but sadly it did. Safari is worth seeing each trip though. There is always something different.

It could be worse, according to UG the original ending involved riding by a dead Big Red. Talk about being bummed on your vacation.

At our zoo, the old hippo died, my DD is still talking about it.

We usually skip the safari while at AK. Unless we arrive at park opening (sometimes we do; sometimes we don't) the wait is often long, so we almost always decide to skip it. The best part is the animals, and we live 20 minutes away from a GREAT zoo at which we can take time to enjoy the animals.

We actually heard a lion roar one time, but we couldn't see it.

Maybe a trained CM explaining WHY the lions don't do much more than lay around (in the wild, lions sleep 20-22 hours a day). When I went to Africa, we had the same problem seeing them do anything other than sleeping. Though we did get up really early one morning and saw a hunt - actually saw them moving that morning. Though I doubt Disney would consider letting a gazelle lose just so that we could get a glimpse of the lion running.

I have mixed feelings about this. I haven't been to AK yet, so the story isn't "old" to me - I haven't seen it once. I can see where it would be to those who have experienced it many times, but isn't it the same for many of the other more classic Disney rides - It's a Small World has been seen by many more people, many more times, and it isn't "old". Ok - to those who aren't fans, maybe it is, but to many others, it is a part of the classic Disney experience.

That said, if the story isn't really good - cheese gets stinky after a while. Maybe the cheesy storyline should be updated to not be so "cheesy" (I don't know personally if it is - I haven't seen it).

I kind of like that they included the conservation message. Sure, it's vacation, but I like learning things on my vacation - for the same reason that I just LOVE Epcot (The Land, Energy, and Living Seas) that a lot of other people consider boring. That's just a personal preference. Everyone is different.

I also like it because, having been a conservation educator at the zoo here in New Orleans, I know first hand how many people truly know nothing about the endangered species problem, the "Vanishing Animals" list, poaching, etc. If an important education message can be incorporated into a fun vacation experience, why not?

I do hope that they don't change it before my trip in 3 weeks - I would like to see Kilamanjaro in it's original form. (I did hear the dead elephant story from a Disney Institute speaker recently - the really bad experiences at the soft opening caused them to immediately do away with the dead big red - and as he described it, it was really bad).

SSLeblanc: I agree that the stories in other rides never change. However, that's not the problem.

You got it with the cheese factor. The story line is just cheesy. The sound effects (fake radio communication) is just cheesy. It gets to the point where you're tired of hearing the guy bad radio communication sound and the CM sound scared.

I kinda like the story...I guess I'm in the minority.

I like that it's made so kids can get a message. I guess I like cheezy things...I married a very cheezy man... :lmao:

If they change it, make it cheezier... :thumbsup2

I'd much rather see more rows per jeep than longer rows- longer rows means that more people are going to be in the middle, which isn't as good as the sides for animal viewing and photo taking!

The change I would most like to see is the addition of another trail, where half of the safari jeeps go one way, and half go another, just to mix things up a little. I *really* wish they could stop in some places, too! I'd really like the possibility of getting to watch the elephants for a while, rather than just speeding past them every time.

Hi ssleblanc! I love Audubon Zoo, we just visited the zoo a few weeks ago and the aquarium last week. Things are def lookin up! If you look through the posts; I made a comment on our dearly beloved newly departed Hippo. Anytime I talk about the zoo my DD brings up the hippo, very sad.

Our prayers and thoughts are with all of our NO friends who have lost so much and who are trying to rebuild their lives and homes! God Bless.

I have reached the conclusion that everything at Disney is supposed to be either cultural (World Showcase) or hokey. They will get rid of the Big Red theme after they find some equally hokey new theme to use.

Living Seas is being re-done to feature Nemo and friends. Perhaps too many people caught on to the fact that the hydrolators dipped only about 1000 microns beneath the (artificial) sea. I suppose that Indy Speedway will be redone to feature Cars.

Admittedly on my first visit to Epcot (1985) I wanted to find things more intellectually stimulating. But I have been back numerous time.

The story line is alittle cheesy as one poster said, but I really love the Safari ride...wouldnt more and longer stops be WONDERFUL??? :goodvibes
But imagine the wait if that was true!! :scared1:

We love this ride. We ride it at least twice everytime we are at AK. I too think the big red/little red storyline needs to change. And PLEASE get rid of that woman's voice. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.
