Changes to fp+

Kenny the pirate just posted that fp+ choices are being limited in a new test until year end. Basically you only get one headliner....soarin or tt for example.
If this stays I'll be very unhappy. On site guests need some perks and should get any 3 choices. It's bad enough they remove park hopping and limit to 3.

I agree it is the one in a lifetimers that will bear the brunt and that's my sister. There is absolutely no way she will ever pay this kind of money to go again. As it is I'm using all my VA miles to "buy" them their flights and my Xmas prezzie to her is going to be a Disney giftcard. I am thankful that we're not going till next October so by then we will have a very good idea of how best to "play" the system.

As usual I worry about those who have used a TA and not found us Dissers or Allears or any of the other fantastic website/forums out there as I really don't imagine any UK TA giving useful advise about FP+ they can barely manage advise about booking ADR's and they've been in use for years

By October it should be MUCH better - that's what I'm telling myself about September, anyway!

WDW seems to be getting more and more expensive with fewer perks, though. I initially really liked the FP+ idea - but the more I read about it, the more it seems to irritate me lol.

We aren't queuers - we just don't like doing it. That's why FP is so beneficial. If they do roll out a system of one headliner FP that would suck - we FP multiple headliners because standing in a 120 minute line isn't my idea of fun!

Well I think that hopefully this is just Disney tinkering with a system thats still in test. I think they were worried by FP all disappearing before 10 am ! I'm sure there will be more tinkering to come! TBH I love the idea of magic bands and all they entail, but the old legacy FP system was very good, I hope they come up with a new way that replicates the old system as much as possible.

My sister is there at the moment and she sent me this message:

"Magic Band update - mainly working well at all parks, but definitely teething problems. Every day one of us can't access a park and a person with an Ipad has to manually scan us in!! Charging to it doesn't seem to be a problem though. Seems we have ANOTHER set of bands when we go to Animal Kingdom!!"

I've no idea why they need a different band for AK and she is having so much fun that she doesn't post me many details.

Pam

Not impressed with this change at all. I really hope this is just another test and they change it back and don't extend it to the other parks as well.

Our next trip is April which I am expecting to be really busy and I was kind of happy to do the FP+ thing as it was - not so much now.

Looks like Rope Drop is going to be just as important (or more so) than before to get onto the headliners.

I've always stressed that as onsite guest the benefit of EMH and how we make the best possible use of FP and NEVER wait any longer than 10-15 mins for a ride.

Exactly why we have enjoyed our visits - by being clued up about FP and being able to obtain them freely plus moving between parks on some days, we have very rarely had to wait for more than 20 minutes for any ride in Disney even during late July/early August. I suspect that if the current trial of only three FPs per day in a single park is made permanent, it will be the end of our visits to WDW as well......

We are just back from 2 fantastic weeks at AKL Kidani and must say we found the MagicBands excellent and indeed a bonus to previous trips! We didn't need to reserve any Fastpass+ until either day before or even on the day of visiting a park (we have never planned our park visit months ahead!) and there was always a selection of times available with the ability to change the time of individual rides once you have made you initial selection.

You do also of course have full use of normal Fastpass so if you want to park hop you can make use of this (say in the morning at one park) as long as you have afternoon Fastpass+ for your other park. Simples!

There were no "different" bands for Animal Kingdom and frankly being able to use them as your room key, charge card and park entry was excellent. No more worrying about the kids (or adults for that matter) losing their cards/tickets. The bands are very secure and comfortable.

IMHO Disney are trying to give their guests more choices and perks so we should commend them for that (even if it does end up as one headliner per FP+)

Forgot to say that our youngest DD did have issues sometimes at the entry gates, but I think that sometimes she was pressing her finger too hard (you still have to scan your finger after you have scanned "Mickey to Mickey"). Sun tan lotion can also cause issues with your finger scan it appears!

Glad to hear you had a good time. I like the concept of the Magic Bands. In fact the whole MDE system, once they eventually get it up and running smoothly, has a lot of potential. You and I are going to disagree on FP though for now :rotfl2:

I'll get my flame suit if need be, but we were FP collectors. I'm not going to hide the fact that we'd typically hoard in excess of 10 each before noon, having ridden standby lines since rope drop as many times. I miss the old system already lol

Did you find the crowds manageable?

Ha, ha! We have always been pretty "lazy" Disers I think! Much prefer the late EMH's to the early ones - particularly MK! Eldest DD had us there til past closing time of 2am on 21/10. It was her 15th birthday, so it was her choice (we had already spent the day at Discovery Cove swimming with dolphins - which was awesome!). It is great to go then though as you can do absolutely everything with no queue at all! The darkness makes it all the more exciting!

We have only ever been to Florida in September or October (September pre-kids). We have always found October to be quiet, although following the "best parks" guide is definitely good practice as you can always get one or two "9" crowd days which is not much fun! The only ride we missed out on was Toy Story at HS. Probably our own fault for not planning that far ahead! We did Busch this year (kids had never been) and it was so quiet there you could do any ride back to back as much times as you liked!

It is incredible but we really feel so much at home at Disney (bought DVC in 2007) and we still think nobody does it better!

I will join you in this - pre having to return in your window we would hoard a lot more FP.

Once they changed that we typically only used 2 or 3 a day as the return times didn't work esp in the summer when we like to take a break and swim (I think DD is crossed with a fish :rotfl: )

We just got back at the weekend and have to say the magic bands were fantastic - and a big advantage over the Key to the world card.

We must have been one of the lucky ones as we never had any issues at all over the 2 weeks we were there.

There were three families travelling together so we all made our FP choices the night before and got the majority OK - the only one we had to do 2 days in advance was toy story mania

Not sure if the OP is regarding something new since this weekend but we had no issues booking fast passes the same day for Soarin. Test Track and Mission Space?

As I say we found the bands to be an excellent addition to our holiday so I really hope they can iron out any issues people are experiencing

Yes

There is a test that will restrict Fastpass+ usage in EPCOT for Fastpass+ bookings between November 4 and December 29
