Changes to Backlot Express

Mark, I couldn't get your link to work so I've just amended it.

I couldn't agree with you more ~ I loved the Backlot Express just as it was.

The whole place now just looks cheap, nasty and tacky :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

and that seems to be the general consensus of opinion from all over the web.
It's actually never been open when we've been there so I can only judge by the photos I've seen, can't say I'm impressed.

As a Backlot Express newbie, I have to say that almost anything would be an improvement over the stripped-bare hangar we experienced in May :confused3. I loved the food options there though, and my DD is quite excited to eat in a HSM-themed cafe.

Seriously, in May, apart from the band area, there was nothing at all on the walls, ceiling etc.

DH and DD ate here last week when they went and Jack Sparrow was going round the tables in the POC section :cool1:

I must be the odd one out, but it honestly doesn't bother me. If I go in there it's to buy a sandwich or a drink, it really doesn't matter to me what's on the walls! :confused3

Mind you, we're not exactly 'fine dining' people anyway so that probably makes a difference - not to say we don't like nice food, we just don't like to pay a fortune for it! :rotfl:

Well, I suppose that is some consolation!! ;)

Did they have a nice holiday?

Yes they did . They said the food at backlot express was really nice and it was an unexpected bonus having Jack and he spent ages there

Shame that they did not stick with one theme since both together do not :confused3

Just think that the person who oversaw this development has been rewarded by being put in charge of Disneyland, Anaheim. Good luck CA :thumbsup2

I like it. Aside from it being a smart move to theme a restaurant on two of the biggest movie franchises of recent years, I think it looks like a fun place to eat. Having said that, I liked how it was before and I'm not sure it was necessary for them to change it.

Nonetheless, it is what it is now and if people catch on to Jack Sparrow doing the rounds, it will become a real money-spinner!! ;) They should get a Zac Efron lookalike to do the HSM bit! :rotfl:

:rotfl2: Good idea.

I liked the look of it. I didn't like it before - it was cold and dirty looking to my eyes. Stories of mice running free didn't help to boost its appeal. We looked at it in summer and thought how nice it looked (as I said in my trip report - didn't realise then I was going against the flow :teeth: )
The only reason we didn't eat there last week was because the queues meant our hot food would have been cold by the time we ate it.

I didn't particularly like the tone of the blog, though

personally i dont dislike it. i wouldnt have ate there before as i hate clutter and it looked quite claustrophobic. at the end of the day the change was made to try generate more customers to the restaraunt. there is no point in keeping it the way it was and to have no customers.

::yes:: agree. We went in May too and it was awful, there was hardly any food available and the staff were very rude to us. I hate that coffee machine idea there, get a token and get coffee, sooooo tacky:sad2:

Oh I agree totally. We went in there in January and felt exactly the same as you. We never went back this last trip because of the rudeness we experienced first time round.

I'm looking forward to seeing the changes when we go in dec. I did like the old theme, but it needed something new to it. When we went in may, they had taken everything down, so we guessed that changes were coming up!
From the pics it looks ok, but it's difficult to judge just from a picture. But I know I'll be eating in the pirates-section, that's for sure!
