Changes to AKV concierge lounge

Hold the phone..
No more Bailey's, or no more Amarula?

I would imagine if Bailey's is gone, the Amarula went with it.. This is truly a crisis.

We were there for 4 nights in September and the Amarula was still there..
We liked it that much in concierge we have booked 18 nights for next september.

We have stayed CL for the last 2 years and it has always been awesome. We stay in July/August.

The food this year was pretty much the same. We DID actually get soup the first night of our 10 night stay, but never saw it again after that.

The offering changed every night. Ribs, Chicken on sticks, What i call "Weird wings" (because there are no drums), meatballs, sausage & peppers, bobotie (filo cups with either veggie or lamb/beef), lamb kefta sticks (my favorite!) and several other things.

Never complained about what was out. Always enjoyed the rest of the spread, the cheeses, dips, chips, pb&j pockets, etc. All the beer, wine and soda they had to offer (Love the Tusker Lager!)

If we were at the hotel around 5pm, we went and checked it out. Sometimes it was crowded, sometimes it was empty. Always passed by to see what was out that night if we were there though and take a taste.

Two things...

One...there did seem at times to be A LOT more people there than could be in the 10 rooms on CL.

Two...We book CL not for the food, but for the experience. The full level of service - everyday room cleaning and turn down service, the treatment of the staff - THIS is why we go back there every year.

With regards to the Lounge and the staff there....Treat them right and they will treat you right. They have taken my dishes and cleaned up messes in front of me without me even asking. They have come to me and asked me if they can get me a beer or anything else i wanted. Granted, we do out of habit, clean up after ourselves (there IS a pail and a place to put dishes if u so choose) - but many people don't and leave their stuff out and EXPECT this. Now I know this is there job, but treat them like people and not slaves. You will have a much nicer experience and what food or liquor is out won't really matter.

I have stayed CL at AKL twice and loved it both times - this June with AKV. The only comment I have is that DNeph and I were both shocked at the amount of food people were taking in the evening. Of course I was explaining to him that we have to share the offerings and that they weren't meant to be a meal (he is a growing, hungry 11 yo boy, after all) and that he could take a few pieces of each and go back later for a few more once the plates were replenished. So of course he had to point out to me that most people were literally piling their plates with mini ribs, meatballs, chicken sticks, tarts, etc. (several times we had to wait for them to bring more of something as people in front of us emptied the serving plates while others were still behind them in line). Perhaps guests have once again caused a wonderful offering to be reevaluated - maybe they decided that offering dinner-type foods only encouraged people to make a full dinner out of them instead of treating them like the samplings they were meant to be. Just a thought we already had many months ago in light of the sad news about the CL offerings. I too will miss the Bailey's - hopefully it was a rare thing - I remember it not being there on one night of our stay, too!!

Too bad that some have to ruin it for everyone else. Where were those folks when manners were being passed out? We rarely if ever found much food at the CL lounge when we managed to get there. I did enjoy the tea though. I also enjoyed the little dessert samples they had from Jiko. Do they still have those later in the evening?

The lounge is also for hotel (non-DVC) concierge guests, which is pretty much the whole 4th floor, I think.

For the amount of money disney charges for CL, I say who cares eat, drink, and be merry!!! Don't worry Disney won't lose any money on CL services or offerings.....
