We have stayed CL for the last 2 years and it has always been awesome. We stay in July/August.
The food this year was pretty much the same. We DID actually get soup the first night of our 10 night stay, but never saw it again after that.
The offering changed every night. Ribs, Chicken on sticks, What i call "Weird wings" (because there are no drums), meatballs, sausage & peppers, bobotie (filo cups with either veggie or lamb/beef), lamb kefta sticks (my favorite!) and several other things.
Never complained about what was out. Always enjoyed the rest of the spread, the cheeses, dips, chips, pb&j pockets, etc. All the beer, wine and soda they had to offer (Love the Tusker Lager!)
If we were at the hotel around 5pm, we went and checked it out. Sometimes it was crowded, sometimes it was empty. Always passed by to see what was out that night if we were there though and take a taste.
Two things...
One...there did seem
at times to be A LOT more people there than could be in the 10 rooms on CL.
Two...We book CL not for the food, but for the experience. The full level of service - everyday room cleaning and turn down service, the treatment of the staff - THIS is why we go back there every year.
With regards to the Lounge and the staff there....Treat them right and they will treat you right. They have taken my dishes and cleaned up messes in front of me without me even asking. They have come to me and asked me if they can get me a beer or anything else i wanted. Granted, we do out of habit, clean up after ourselves (there IS a pail and a place to put dishes if u so choose) - but many people don't and leave their stuff out and EXPECT this. Now I know this is there job, but treat them like people and not slaves. You will have a much nicer experience and what food or liquor is out won't really matter.
