They give a $20 in person discount on Magic Key actually. It’s a laughable discount but it’s available. One more random thought. The vast majority of DVC properties & points are in WDW, and they have a much smaller footprint around DLR. They've actively selling VDH. Why not introduce a perk for direct VDH owners to have a discount on a MagicKey annual pass?
I can't think of another major (or even mid-major) timeshare developer that doesn't have a teired perk structure.TBH I'm surprised we haven' already seen it.
But I think the desire would be to get people to buy more than just the minimum to get perks.Lower direct perks buy-in to 100? Easier to sell it based on math and not so timesharey. 100 pts * 240 + is easier than than 150 pts. More would do direct if they lowered the minimum. More resalers might sell contracts to go direct too.
Disney set the minimum for benefits to 100 points on September 17, 2019. It raised it two more times since then.Lower direct perks buy-in to 100? It would also make people reconsider selling or selling and replacing with more direct if they want to keep those benefits. But I think the desire would be to get people to buy more than just the minimum to get perks.
Therefore offer x perks at 150, better y perks at 200, even better z perks at 300, and so on. No doubt the perks would need to be substantial to really drive sales, but I don't think it would be hard to achieve.
I own between 300-400 direct points plus another 300-400 resale and don’t see “slightly larger discount on AP (or other items)” as something that would move the needle for me on paying $200 for direct points vs. $100-150 for resale up front.I agree with increase the perks to drive direct purchases, like discounts on AP's since typically the more points to you have the more nights in WDW you tend to stay also could be applied to DL. 150 points direct gets the ability to buy the socerers pass and pay for it monthly like Florida residents. Then a discount starting at a certain about of points.
- 300-499 points owners get 10-15% off, and
- 500-749 points 15-20% off
- 750-999 points 25% off
- Over 1000 gets 40% off. I know that sounds like a lot and we have a lot of those owners represented on the Disboards but I do not think the amount is so high it would negativly impact their bottom line. I know my dream goal is to be a member of the 1000 point club.
The reverse question: If there were no blue-card benefits at all and no restrictions, how many would buy direct points at all?I own between 300-400 direct points plus another 300-400 resale and don’t see “slightly larger discount on AP (or other items)” as something that would move the needle for me on paying $200 for direct points vs. $100-150 for resale up front.
I would be curiously to hear from DVC tycoon type folks, but I would guess for those of us over 500 points, to get us to exchange resale points into direct, the tiered perks would be less about saving money and more about exclusive events/opportunities.

One you have benefits there is no reason to keep buying direct which is why DVC keeps revisiting this.
Would DVC make more money if they made MMB point-based instead of charging the $99?The other piece is that benefits involve others and so anyting has to be negotiated.
I don’t think that’s as easy as it sounds. Some things can’t become benefits that I think people would like…
But, the MMB program was a nice start, even with it being fee based.
Only those who don’t know resale exists. The reverse question: If there were no blue-card benefits at all and no restrictions, how many would buy direct points at all?
or REALLY love Moonlight MagicOnly those who don’t know resale exists.

IOW, you get MMB if you have 200 direct points, no additional charge.
or REALLY love Moonlight Magic
ETA: Nevermind, that makes no sense
Oh yes, Disney is a giant corporation and DVC can't just give out WDW or DL perks without proper internal bargaining. The other piece is that benefits involve others and so anyting has to be negotiated.

Just don’t recommend around DCL cruisers that DVC should get grandfathered status on DCL. I made that mistake once.Oh yes, Disney is a giant corporation and DVC can't just give out WDW or DL perks without proper internal bargaining.
I understand DCL operates everything within its own portion of the Walt Disney Corporation, but something like Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Pearl tiers with dedicated phone numbers, earlier access to booking windows on trades (hinted at in DVC surveys), and even multiple MMs could be something internal.
What about better direct pricing if you own more? Not the standard member pricing, but tiered based on what you own? Would that entice members?

Oh sorry, I didn't mean any DCL benefits for DVC owners. I mean DVC giving benefits structured similarly to DVC members like DCL does all within it's own area of the Walt Disney Company.DVC owners do get slightly earlier booking windows for DCL than general public, but I can understand why they are not going to give DVC owners similar status as they do who have earned loyalty for cruising.
At least with MMB, we got discounts on WDW tickets so thats a sign in the right direction with other divisiions!!!
