Changes in # of guests on ADR

As of today, I have 4 guests in my party coming on my next vacation. However, it is possible that 2 of these guests may have to back out. If I have made an ADR for 4 guests, can i easily change the number of guests on the ADR to 2, without losing the time or the ADR or be penalized in any way? Would this have to be done in a certain time frame?

Reducing is usually not a problem, most of the time, even as a party of 2, you'll be sat at a 4 top anyway. I'd certainly call ahead for any CC guaranteed reservations you have (1 day for most, 2 days for a few), but if they can't adjust for non-CC guaranteed reservations, I wouldn't sweat it.

It shouldn't be a problem we downsized our ADR many times when we arrived for our seating due to illness, lack of hunger, temper tantrums
