Changes coming to the Fantasy!

Plenty of girls dress as Rey for Star Wars Days....

A key thing is that most of the Disney IP skews young for girls. Princesses is marketed largely to the under-8 set. The Disney Channel stuff and Descendants doesn't translate well into a 3-12 kids club environment. Some of the mid-range age stuff there would probably also be criticized as too boy.

Dr Strange seems a bit odd for a kid's club. That's not a character they are as familiar with and I doubt many at that age have seen the movie.

We did the dream last year after they did the updates to the club. There was still plenty for the girls. They will likely changed the "submarine" looking area and the front room on the opposite side of Andys room (monsters inc)? That's what was changed on the dream.
I too was hoping for Vanellopes, I really wanted a sundae in her car!! I didn't find out about it until we were back from our trip on the dream!
I also hope the spruce up the concierge sun deck- I would like to see a hot tube added like on the dream!

Hoping there is more to come!!

Exactly! My 9 year old is a total girly girl. My just turned 8 year old girl is a tomboy that is into dresses and makeup. She hates princesses (even though she likes to dress like them) and is totally into super heroes.

It's always been pretty common for girls to like boys things. Boys liking princesses a different story.

I am glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! As I tell my kids, there is plenty of food on this ship that I don't have to pay extra for, go have some of that.

FWIW, having actually shopped in Tiffany's in NYC and bought a couple of things, they DO have some things that aren't UBER expensive - in fact I've seen some cheaper than the Dooney and Bourke (however it's spelled) purses or some of the jewelry on board now.

I wonder if they'll have DCL branded items.

I loved superheroes as a young girl. A lot of girls do. I think it'll be fine.

But not in the kids clubs. How in the world I'm going to get my granddaughter to stay in the club long enough to eat at Palo is beyond me.

Introduce her to Star Wars? There is always one strong female character that the whole story revolves around. Leia was it for the first 3 released, then it was Padme (though ugh at her last movie), and now we've got Jin (?) and Rey... Not bad. Except for Padme. Maybe avoid that.

I also wish there was a new girls area. Disney is trying to overdo super heroes.

The free ice cream and soft servce is hardly good. At least I've heard the gelato stuff is made with decent ingredients.

And now they are back up in line with Royal, who has tasty Ben&Jerry's. AND they have arcades. Stinkin' Disney getting rid of the arcades... (and Royal wins again for my family)

Star Wars would definitely appeal more than princess stuff to most older girls in lab/club ages, I think. My 11yo still loves her princess m&g's, don't get me wrong, but she had NO interest in the new Frozen area on the Wonder. FWIW, I didn't see a single kid in that section during open house. I'm not sure what it's used for, but it wasn't teeming with little girls like you might think, in any case. It seems like those working on the Star Wars franchise have realized how many girls love it just as much as boys, with far better character development of late for females (thinking of Clone Wars cartoons plus obviously Rey); so it makes sense to me to devote a section to something with more broad-range appeal than Frozen or Doctor Strange.

Yeah, Dr. Strange is a little weird. The above-referenced 11yo lasted through about 15min of the movie, although my 8yo son did watch the whole thing on the Wonder. However, he has not talked about it whatsoever, it was just "fine". I'm not sure I see how that character is as appealing to kids as most other super-heroes are... I would have gone for Thor, myself. I do like Thor.

WORD. "Why don't you like Padme, Mom?" Well, child of mine, let's go through the character progression of an awesome child-queen who battled fierce creatures in Geonosis to the sad ninny who just up and died b/c her husband turned evil...

I personally loved Star Wars when I was younger, the original trilogy, so plenty of girls do love it too. My kids (one girl, one boy) are into anime and video games. But they both still love the ships so it's all good. I look forward to seeing all the new additions in June!

We were going on the Fantasy before the end of the year and none of us are excited to be missing Monsters, Inc. and Nemo's sub, especially to trade it for Star Wars and Super heroes. So literally, 1/2 of our kids programming is going to be worthless.

I'm not interested in these movies and I would surmise that you are, otherwise how would your children even know about them? I'm fairly confident that among my granddaughter's friends, these movies are not on their radars, either.

Glad this is going to work out for you. Sad/mad it's not working out for me.
