2 November 2006: Tusker House to become Character Buffet

The Tusker House restaurant in Harambe is being prepared for some significant changes. It is expected that the restaurant will change from a counter service to a character buffet dining experience. The conversion seems to be reasonably permanent, as plans call for the registers to be removed. Whilst this plan looks certain to go ahead, remember that until officially confirmed, it should be treated as speculation.

I hope this isn't true. IMHO Tuskers is the best CS restaurant at WDW.

Maybe they will do something similar to Donalds and have character meal just for breakfast, although that would be silly seeing as they do offer this at Donalds.I agree, it is a great place for CS lunch though, and so convenient in Africa, don't know why they need this as they are building a restaurant in Asia already

I wonder if this will be lunch/dinner character buffet in order to encourage more people to stay in AK for a whole day??

It would seem strange to have two breakfasts on the go in AK unless they were thinking of ending Donalds Breakfast, which would be a pity

It would be nice to have another sit down restaurant in AK as well as RFC. Hope they don't do away with Donald's Breakfastosaurus

Everytime we have been to WDW we have said we must try Tusker House but never got round to it - now I guess we never will LOL

I'll be gutted if this happens, we only found the Tusker House on our last trip and they do lovely chicken dinners there

I feel that AK badly needs a sit down restaurant. I believe one is coming to Asia but another one won't hurt will it?

We never eat at counter restaurants so we are probably biased. However as we are DVC members we are lucky and if we want a snack can always go back to our villas (especially as DVC Animal Kingdom Lodge is coming soon Yay Yay Yay!!)

I can remember reading about this on the Restaurants board a few weeks ago. Some DISers wondered if there was confusion with the new restaurant opening in Asia.

After all the great reviews Tuskers receives we had planned to eat there. I do hope it will still be open. I will be keeping my fingers crossed!

Tusker House was the best quick service restaurant at WDW in my opinion. This really blows it, I think. They are going to turn it into just another buffet restaurtant.

I'm another one hoping this is not true. I really like Tusker House and is easily the best counter service restaurant in AK in my opinion.

I love the characters, but do we really need another character meal?

Now if they decide to close the Dawa bar.........
