I know. I've been missing our daily chats at this time of the day. I don't think our timezone changes for another month or so. Oh well....here's hoping our paths cross more and soon. I'm going to say good night. We had White Night in Melbourne at the weekend and I was out on Saturday night till about 2 am. Gotta catch up on some sleep. Have a great day. :goodvibes

Hi...I was not here for your chat, but enjoyed reading it, PIO & Kitty. We have thawed enough to see grass everywhere, but the polar vortex is set to visit us too, later this week!

Missed it too! We still have a little snow around in the big piles but it was almost 60 degrees yesterday. Supposedly the Polar Vortex is hitting again on Wednesday but not as hard as before.

Work will be pulling me away from DIS more and more as I work on the Recruitment Center setup. Eventually I'll have to do all my DISing at home. The trade off is a pay increase....so I guess it's worth it.

Thanks Bobbi!

I know about the dieting; I can't seem to lose even though I am eating reasonably and exercising. I feel hungry most of the time too!!!

Hi girls  What kind of recruiting do you do, Kathy? Nice about the pay increase. And Bobbi, the weight has been creeping up on me this winter!! I'm totally blaming it on the Polar Vortex.....got to keep my body insulated some how!!! :rotfl:

I'll have to remember your rationale Kitty!

It's the same kind of recruitment we do every other year; part-time work going out into schools during a six-week period to assess students for the NAEP test. We generally hire retired teachers. It pays from about about $12 to $15 an hour including travel time etc.

I will be supervising the referral of names process for possible employment and then the checking of applicant references. We will hire about 5,000 people for all 50 states and some overseas schools. It is massive effort for a short time of employment.

In prior years I was a supervisor for the same project's Staff and School Help Desk and it was very stressful. Hopefully this will be better!

Thanks for asking!

I truly hate the weight gain and am looking for ways to get my weight down.

Sounds like when they use to hire me to help proctor our NWEA and MEAP tests in our school districts, Kathy. Fun times but rather stressful, too!

I think you have an interesting job, Kathy....Kitty, I am glad you like subbing and that it is available for you.

Yes! You would be a wonderful candidate for this job when you retire for good Kitty!

It's probably less stressful than doing it in your own school system while you are still employed by them.

Most of our people love this job and enjoy working for years within the project. We have coordinators who do all the behind the scenes tough stuff and go out with our hired assessors. Most assessors just count/prepare materials, test the kids for a couple hours and then pack the stuff up for mailing to the contractor. Our company has been the contractor for this program since 1992 I think, so the whole process is pretty well organized. We will be pilot testing using tablets for the kids in a few areas this spring. Then in 2017 every kid will be tested using a tablet.

We also work with a couple other high-profile studies such as PISA and TIMMS.

If you ever decide that you want to work for about 20-30 hours a week in your home county during late January - early March in 2015 or 2017 just let me know and I'll send you the details.

Are you part of ETS out of Princeton, Kathy? Or is that out of business now? I used to live near Princeton NJ and lots of friends worked for ETS.

We work with ETS and about 10 other contractors but we are not part of ETS. We are actually all under the Education Department - Department of Educational Statistics umbrella.

Well there's a lot of testing! I knew people who were hired to read essays, never was involved like that.

Kathy, sorry I didn't get back with you yesterday. Do you hire proctors, then? I have proctored our Michigan state test which is way full of rules and regulations!! I've also administered NWEA which is all online.
