change of planes, ECV, and stressed DD?

we have been offered my dad's frequent flyer tickets on American for our upcoming trip, but on the way to orlando there are no non-stop flights on our travel date and we'll either have to lose two days or else fly with a change of planes.

i'm not happy about either of these choices. having two less vacation days is obviously not so terrific. and changing planes poses at least two problems. one--it means more airport handling of my ECV and more potential for something to go wrong (and this is on the way THERE, so there's not much margin for error). and two--not sure if anyone remembers me posting several years ago about my dd getting sick on airplanes. well, she can swallow pills now, but even maximum quantities of dramamine don't help her from filling airsick bags and the dr agrees that it's stress and is willing to prescribe xanax. so i hate to put her (and the ecv ;) ) through an extra flight. but otherwise we lose two whole days.

what do you think we should do? should i hold out that frequent flyer seats will open up? does that really ever happen? or else, i'm leaning toward shortening the vacation. or we could always just buy the tickets--seats are available for cash, just not points, but it would be such a savings if we didn't have to.

given all the complications that a non-stop trip would prevent, I think I'd do whatever it took to get a non-stop flight.

If you fly with 2 planes, you might end up losing 2 days anyway because of the extra stress.

If you do decide to try the zanax approach. Make sure to try it before you travel to ensure there are no reactions to that medicine.

I would think paying for the tickets would be better than do the lay-over.
You would get more disney time, and well less stress in what may or may not happen.

It depends on the airport. My 2006 trip to the midwest meant getting out of the plane, finding help, finding the subway, getting of and finding my plane. Another leg was delayed so that I was waddling fast to another part of the airport, and the second plane was delayed getting off the ground.

It is better to have fewer days full of happiness. Airports on a good day are very stressful.

I m the Queen of seasickness and my daughter the Princess of Airsickness. I highly recommend chewable Bonine and a sudafed before flying. The Bonine works better at sea than any form of Dramamine or anything else I've tried. In combo with a sudafed (decongestant for the ear pressure thing on planes wit kids) it also works well for airsickness. Good luck.
