Hello,

Has anyone got any pics of the Keywest room at the Grand Floridian Convention centre? They've got construction at the Grand Floridian next year and I've been told that's where we'll be having our cake and champ reception. I can't seem to find any pics of it on the inteenet.

Has anyone else been told this by their wedding co-ordinator? I'm getting married in June 08.

Thanks

Have you tried the Disney meetings website they show all the rooms on there but they are 3D and the link doesn't work on my computer.

Thanks for the piccies and the link, but so far no ones said that they have had to move. I just think that I am missing out :sad2: cause it's no where near as nice as the other terrace that we would of used. Does anyone know if it has a view of MK?

Thanks

Do you know where the construction is going to be? My pre reception is going to be on the patio/whitehall room, and my reception is going to be in the ballroom. I hope the construction will not effect this.

Do you know where the construction is going to be?

That was going to be my next question as my reception is also going to be in the whitehall room and we are getting married in July. We have just started to contract in and no one has mentioned anything about this to me.

Perhaps they are just doing work to the terrace or an area affecting that specific day or week (however long) and that is why it is affecting you and not others? I would ask for the specific construction dates and maybe that will help you. Are you able to change your date if that is the case?

You can try asking Disney for "specifics" but I'm guessing they won't be able to give you much.

When I was planning my wedding we originally planned to get married at Sunset Pointe and stay at the Poly. No one at DFTW mentioned any problems.

However, being a diligent DISer ;) I checked out the Poly threads on the resort board. And discovered that the Poly re-hab was going on and that the concierge building (which is where our reservations were) was going to be undergoing re-hab "sometime in September/October".

I was a month away from my wedding and I called the Poly manager, the DFTW "boss"-manager and NO ONE could give me an exact date for the rehab schedule. I ended up totally changing my ceremony location and my accommodations/reservations. (We were married at Sea Breeze Point and stayed at the Boardwalk.)

You shouldn't have to go that far (and at least you did get some kind of "heads up")...I would just ask if there are any other options for the cake/champagne reception location.

This seems very odd. I would think they would need to tell you if your wedding is going to be in a construction zone. I am going to e-mail Joe and ask him if he has heard anything about this. We sign our contracts with Disney next month, and I would like to find out about this before we sign. I'll let you know what I find out!

Hello,
When I first called Disney they did say there would be construction near the commanders terrace and 2nd floor bar. That is why we would be moved to a different location but it would stil be at the Grand Floridian. But when I called the reservation number to book my 4 night stay they said it was no major reconstruction and that they were mainly replacing carpets and general upkeep work. I don't think it's going to affect you unless they told you when you booked. But it wouldn't harm to ask your planner.

I think so far I'm the only one it's affecting???

Sorry to cause any probs?? :rolleyes1

Sounds like it is a minor updating (carpets and paint maybe?) but they know it might happen the week you're there, so for a change they seem to be proactive in moving you to a more suitable location. If it really is minor, it'll probably be done in a couple of days, which may be why no one else has heard anything. When is your weddign planned for??

Well, I just received a e-mail back from my wedding planner.Due to the constrctuin my pre-ceremony pictures might have to be moved somewhere else. Also, their might be scaffolding on the whitehall patio (which is where pre-reception is) But, in DFTW fashion was followed by this is tenetive and no plans have been finalized. I am however, a little upset that no one mentioned any of this to us at our site meeting. The whitehall patio was one of the reasons we booked the GF because it has a view of the castle. So, I guess we will have to wait and see!

Hiya,
I've booked an escape package for 11th June 2008. I know that the whitehall location is being used on the same day by another party and I think they would at least let people know if any of this would cause a disturbance. I am sure it is only minor work that they are doing and it wouldn't get in the way of any wedding receptions, otherwise you would be moved to a different location like me.

I'm sure everything will be fine Keira1387. They'l only change anything if they have to, and I'm sure your piccies will be amazing where ever they are taken. :)

Thanks Whoopdedoo! I'm sure everything will work out! I was just a little shocked, but I know Disney is not going to put us in a construction zone. Also, he said that they will be doing it in sections, so maybe we will get lucky, and they won't be working in our areas during the wedding!

Keira - I'm getting married a few days before you and have not been told this about the White Hall room. I have already talked to my DF and he said he would want to move rooms if there is any construction work going on.

My contract is being written at the moment so I am going to e-mail my consultant and see what she knows. I will let you know if I am told any different.

Thanks B2B-2008! Please let me know if you hear anything different. I still am a little concerned, b/c it is so close to signing my contract. I'll guess we will wait and see what happens.

I sent an e-mail this morning but I am still waiting for a reply. I have asked if they will tell us if we need to move nearer the time as I know my DF would rather change location than have our reception dinner in a construction site. I will post as soon as I have an answer.

Hello, I am new to this discussion board. I am having an escape/intimate wedding in June 08. I am getting married at the WP. I was looking forward to going onto the terrace for my cake/champagne reception. However, I was told the terrace would be part of the construction zone. In fact, the construction aspects are mentioned in my contract (I just received it the other day). I am concerned because I was looking forward to the cake celebration on the terrace. The Grand Floridian is beautiful. I am disappointed that we are moved to the convention center. I can see other brides are dealing with the same issue. I believe the construction is starting in May and running through December. I am trying to figure out how to deal with this. Thanks!
