Change my mind about Cabana Bay

Our family must be the only family who absolutely hated Cabana Bay.

We will pay the extra to stay at the Royal Pacific or Portofino the next time. It definitely was not worth the saving of money.

I would choose CB if it meant that or staying off-site, but would choose 2 rooms a RP or HRH if money wasn't an option. We were there with 2 adults and 2 teens for one night after RPR. It was tough to adjust to the value resort after RPR, so if you do a split stay, do CB first.

I thought the sleeping area was roomy enough, and the beds comfy enough. But as a pp said, once the sofa bed it pulled out, the living area was very crowded. We had to put a twin air mattress in there (teens not sibs and would not share a bed) and there was NO room to walk.

The lazy river area was nice, and the lobby was cool. The food stand by lazy river just so-so- typical counter service. Starbucks a two thumbs up!! Parking was not bad.

If you do not plan on spending much time in room you should be okay, but otherwise it will be very close for a family of 6.

We're here now, and I'm gonna be honest. We stayed our first 2 nights at Portofino, then moved here. Big mistake. I should've planned to do this place first, if at all. My kids are used to deluxe resorts, and it has been difficult to adjust. My boys are fine, and actually really like it here. But my teen dd actually cried. Lol. Granted, she's somewhat of a princess. I almost changed back to Portofino after our first night here, but decided not to simply because she needs to learn to appreciate things.
I will say that there are a ton of fun things going on at this place. Awesome pools, movies outside, campfire with s'mores. It's just the room that bothers me. If we were to do it over, I'd get 2 suites.

Going from Portofino to Cabana Bay would definitely be a downgrade, lol. We went from Art of Animation to Cabana Bay and felt like we were staying in a deluxe! Then we went to Royal Pacific the next day to get all the benefits. We actually loved Cabana Bay and if it had express, we'd stay there all the time.

I've been to Universal several time once late September and late January. I would stay at CB during these times because honestly most of the rides we walked on and we did not need the express pass. If it's summer or Christmas week I might go ahead and spend the extra money. CB has come out more cheap than the value resorts at Disney. But yes if you have a larger group two connecting suites might work better. Than you have room to stretch out a bit.

I got my RP loving sister to stay at CB. She loved it. She's super picky about her hotels

Yep, totally agree do value before deluxe.

We are actually excited to checkin in Wednesday for the one night but know going into what to expect. If there was a room at RPR for that night I would not be there at all but worth the try and price.

Would you recommend std tower room over poolside std room since it's quieter due to the interior hallways?

We we're expecting one more adult to go with us and booked for 3 adults in a std room, the other adult probably will not go so I tried to change the reservation online and only poolside rooms were available.

Should I keep the standard room as is or change to poolside? The cost winds up $2 cheaper for the poolside with 2 adults as opposed to 3 in a standard room so cost isn't a factor.

tink, i thought you were staying at rph for the fall trip.
is it a split stay for that trip?

you might get better luck if you call and ask what is available as you aren't seeing it on the website.

Mac, we're doing a split stay with 7 nights at CB and 1at RPR. I just was wondering whether the tower std room was better. I think I can have our rate adjusted if I call or I can wait until We check in.

We loved the tower family suite. I think the in closed halls are better and no one walking by can look in. We had a tower poolside family suite. You must be talking about courtyard room vs tower. If you can get a suite if you are going for 7 days.

Vicki you have to let me know your dates again.

We are having to make plans this year :sad2: and trying to fit everyone in is a nightmare just now!! 2 sets of Cousins and nephew are there at same time as well as friends so our days are being eaten into somehow, especially at the end which we hadn't planned on at all. Families :rolleyes1 And I have a surprise planned for a certain someone on our last weekend too on the Saturday :drive::car:

I don't like to plan.

Sorry OP.......:offtopic:

Bluer, I've aleady booked a std room at a good rate it says that it's a tower location but now the only rooms available are poolside so I'm probably going to keep what I have.

Carole, my dates are Sept 29 - Oct 7.....what...you're planning now...never thought I'd see the day :sad2:
