What do you usually use your change jar money for?

I want to dedicate our change jar money to something specific so we have more motivation.

I have already dedicated my extra lunch money to MYW tickets and extra grocery money to the food budget.

Just wondering what everyone else does.

Thanks!

Do you mean towards something on your trip?

How about souvenirs? :goodvibes

We saved our change for over 15 years & then finally bought into DVC with it. It's was a great way for us to spend it!!!!! :teeth:

Yeah, I was thinking specifically towards Disney trips.

Thanks for the input. I like it!

Well so far my kids have well over 200.00 not all change but still their little savings they have saved JUST FOR DISNEY. I will take that money divide it up between the two of them and give then so much everyday we are at diney or at least everyother day and let them buy something SPECIAL that THEY WANT. That way I figure they won't BEG me as much for buying tooo many things. I will tell them this is what you have for the day when it's gone it's gone. (hope my plan works!) :rotfl2:

before every vacation we cash in all of our "change jar" money and use it for spending money on totally unnecesary items -- souvenirs mostly. it's like found money and therefore it is your duty to spend it frivolously!! ENJOY!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Our change jar is for the kids spending money while in WDW. So far they're up to $150+ :hyper:

My change jar will be our spending money. I am saving it up now till we go in Nov. I did cash in once cause DS was in my money. Now I have the jar locked up and I put the change in there and lock it back up. I am interested in to see how much we have in there.

I have been turning all rebate checks and my tiny tiny child support checks into Disney Dollars.

I plan to have about 600 when we go!

I figured I always have to put those coins in rolls by myself, I can't drop a jar of coins at the bank and say here count it and deposit it. Or can I?

Seems a lot easier to bring all that change to the grocery stores and use it instead of bills.

So how do you convert your pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters into cold hard bills?

Coin Star, found at grocery stores, will count you change for you - unwrapped of course. When it's finished CS will print a receipt that you take to Customer Service, who will give you the cash, less CS's 8%.

Some banks also have counting machines and I don't think they charge if you have an account.

we always save our change for vacations. we usually end up with about 4-6 hundred every year. We also just take the change in to our bank and the count it for free they will give you cash our you can deposit it into your account. I think you must have an account with them in order for them to count it for free.

We have about $170.00 in change right now. I am going to give some of it to our DD for her to spend and the rest we'll use just as spending money...snacks, souvenirs, etc.

my bank counts it for free. So I will just take in my Fantasmic Popcorn bucket and have them count it.

Our change jar is for the kids spending money at WDW. The kids love finding extra change and putting it in the jar.

Depending on the amount, the change jar can mean the difference between a moderate resort or a deluxe. Last year, there was over $600 in the jar. So far this year, there's about $300. It's probably due to me putting more everyday purchases on the credit card this year so that I can collect the rewards. It looks like it will be my souvenir money this time around.

We put ours in a Tigger bank and use it for something thatwe wouldn't normally buy at DW. It might be a food treat that we just think is a little too expensive, or a souvenier that we would love to have but... We have spent that money in our minds a million times so it's nice to see what we eventually do spend it on when we get there.

DH and I do the change jar and we have designated it for different things. This time.... he wanted to do Richard Petty Driving experience so I thought this would be good motivation for him to use the change jar. So I told him he could have all the money in the change Jar for that. Boy... he's been motivated to save that change now!!!!! :rotfl2:

We have a change jar AND a money box. I put my change in the change jar every night, and I also throw a couple bucks in the money box as well. Sometimes, when I get paid, I'll toss a $20 bill in the money box. That money is totally off-limits to us, and it's saved exclusively for vacation spending money. We will use it to buy souviners, treats, etc. It's fun money, and I really enjoy seeing it add up. Right now, the change jar is so heavy, I can't even lift it anymore! I used to only put pennies in it, but now I love to put tons of quarters in. IT really adds up fast that way.

Ok, first of all I admit I am a little  but our change jar IS for the vacation. I drop change in and every now and again will roll it, exchange it at the bank for the good paper stuff and place that is my envelopes. :teeth:

I know, I know some people, ok maybe many people think I am   to do it that way but it works for me/us. I also put ALL $1. bills in. They DO NOT get spent. ::yes::

Have a great Sunday afternoon ::yes::

* Ears....you are NOT crazy at all for doing that! That is why we started using one! GOOD FOR YOU! Every little bit counts!

We now use ours for rental car and sit-down meals. Last year we were able to use ours (saved for 2 years) on rental car, Boma, and a couple quick-service meals.
