Change In Grocery Delivery Policies?

The most recent AllEars newsletter included this tip:

We just returned from an eight-day stay at Walt Disney World and I have a tip regarding package deliveries from stores like Amazon. We ordered items for our baby (diapers, wipes, formula, etc.) 10 days prior to our trip and had them shipped to All Star Sports. I received emails a few days prior to our check-in day that our packages were delivered. Because of this, I only packed enough baby items for our first day. When we checked in around noontime, I asked about our packages and was told that hotels have been so overwhelmed with the number of package deliveries in the past several months, they no longer have the space to store the packages on-site. Instead, packages are sent to an off-site location. When you check in, your packages are then called for... but it can take a few days to get them to you. About 75 percent of our stuff was located by midnight, the rest by the following day. Needless to say, it was a very stressful start to our vacation and I won't be doing that again!

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm planning on having groceries delivered to OKW next month and want to know more about this apparent change.

Groceries will be delivered to bell services and put in the fridge. Since groceries are delivered usually the same day you arrive I don't see there being a storage issue.

I understand that, we've had groceries delivered to WDW resorts several times in the past and have never had an issue. But apparently the guest I quoted above is claiming there is a new policy that could make delivering groceries to resorts more of a gamble. I was asking if anyone can confirm this.

The tip that you quoted was from a person who had a package delivered (most likely via UPS) and not groceries from a delivery company like WeGoShop or Garden Grocer. That person's package arrive two days prior to the start of their reservation. A grocery delivery is going to occur within a few hours of your arrival.

Grocery deliveries were not causing the storage problem. Huge boxes of diapers and other supplies that sat for days were. However, if this is a real concern for you, why not ask the grocery delivery company that you plan to use where they will be delivering your order. They should be able to reassure you that your items will not be sitting in a remote warehouse.

The person with the tip mentioned Amazon specifically and, given the types of items ordered for delivery, I am assuming they used Amazon Prime Pantry which delivers groceries and household goods to WDW resort hotels and villas.

Also, given Amazon's guaranteed delivery window for groceries being a couple days big I believe my assumption is correct since that person's items arrived a couple days before the start of their vacation.

I was hoping to get information from people who may have experienced what the tip writer says happened, not people who have not and don't know for sure if there was or was not a policy change on storage of such items on-site.

I called OKW Bell Services directly and was told they have never heard of any items of any kind being stored for guests off-site. I hope that information is correct but have been misinformed by CMs a few times in the past so I don't believe I can trust the information 100%.

I guess the safest way to proceed is to not order from Amazon Prime Pantry because they don't deliver on a specific day as do the other grocery delivery services.

I don't know the details, but Disney is only allowing delivery of groceries from places like Garden Grocer between certain hours now. I believe the info is on Garden Grocer's website. If you do a search on the resort board you can probably find the info from other posters.

On the Garden Grocer webpage this looks like the restricted delivery hours only applies to certain resorts (BC, BCV, YC):

QUOTE from the pop-up on their main page:

We need to update you on delivery changes to Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Villas, and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Moving forward we will only be delivering to these resorts during the hours of 4:30pm-5:30pm. ALL orders placed before these changes will now be delivered between the hours of 4:30pm-5:30pm. We do apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.

Ummmm....okay. Good luck. Allears is generally a reliable source but they have been known to provide misinformation on occasion.

The tipster listed diapers, wipes and baby formula in their post. Those are all items which can be purchased from Amazon, without ordering thru Prime Pantry (which does not ship fresh groceries). They are shelf-stable items which would not have been treated like fresh groceries by Amazon. Amazon has a delivery service for fresh groceries (Amazon Fresh) but it is not available in the Disney Resort area. But you go ahead and assume whatever you want. I was trying to point out the difference between a grocery delivery and shipping a package to your resort.

I have had groceries delivered to my resort (CSR) as recently as Sept. 2 of this year. Garden Grocer had no problem making the delivery directly to the resort.

Amazon Prime NOW is available in the Orlando area and does deliveries same day. We ordered last week at 6:30am for a 10:30 am delivery. They have grocery and pantry items. There are some perishables (butter, eggs, milk).

I think that people need to do more of this and less prime pantry to keep the stock flowing thru bell services quickly...and if regular Amazon ordering is done - need to select the condense my shipment option..

I agree with the prime now suggestion. We ordered some things last month and had them in a couple hours right at bell services.
