So the CDC is now saying that the virus isn't easily transmitted by touching surfaces or objects. BUT it may still be possible if you put your hands in your mouth or touch your eyes.

This is an interesting development and a bit of good news but like all the other information that has been put out there before it is subject to change. Although to all those who wipe down all their groceries or anything else they by with Clorox wipes maybe you can relax a little bit?

The problem I see with all the rules that have been put in place is that it seems every other day we are getting some new information that contradicts the day before's determination. We don't have all the answers yet so the people in authority are issuing rules based on some "experts" opinions but if you look you will find just as many "experts" saying the complete opposite.

People are being stripped of their rights as US citizens by their heavy handed governors handling in many states here in the US. Sooner or later we have to open or we won't have a country to open. I for one hope it happens soon, here in NJ people are FINALLY starting to rebel against the heavy handed handling by our governor. I think we have all gotten the message about social distancing, washing our hands and wearing masks (although this one is questionable, lots of experts going both ways on this one). Let us be the adults we are, let us get back to the business of living our lives. If you're not comfortable with going to a restaurant or WDW you don't have to go, it seems pretty easy to me....

I don’t see where this is a change in thought by the CDC. It was always known that the virus did not absorb thru the skin. But it can be transferred from surface to surface by touching a spot where the virus resides and then touching another spot where you then deposit a portion of what is on your hands. You cannot become infected unless the virus is introduced thru the eyes, nose or mouth. Keep your hands clean and away from your face. Wear a mask for the safety of others. The rest is theater, not science.

I do see it as a change. First, we were told that the virus can live on our groceries for up to 5 days so we needed to be extra cautious. Now, we are told that it is hard to catch the virus from surfaces such as groceries.

I am glad about the news. I hated the extra step of washing groceries when they come into the house.

This virus is transmitting the same way as other viruses through droplets. Wash your hands, don't touch your face etc. If you're sick stay home (fever, achey, exhausted, not just cough). It really IS that simple.

I stopped washing my groceries down after the first time, now I just wash down the counter the bags were on just like I always have even before all this because the bags sit in a dirty cart and my dirty floor of my car and bring that dirt in. I use a mixture of half vinegar, half dishwashing liquid to clean with, always have for anything but the toilet which get clorax because yuck. I was at the doctor's office yesterday to get my prescriptions filled (they insist that the insurance company requires them to see me every 3 months to refill them and all the they do is take blood pressure, ox, weigh me and temp. ask how I'm doing) and not a single staff member was wearing a mask or gloves, not the nurses, the doctors or the office staff. I wore a mask but I'm thinking they know something I don't. Oddly enough, yesterday they didn't even take my temp. which they normally do. I did have a disinfectant wipe in my car I used on my hands and phone and kindle when I got back in the car since the phone and kindle did sit on a chair while I was talking to the nurse and I figured it was a doctor's office there had to be sick people touching things.

Covid19 is a NOVEL Corona virus, so it's been a bit of a moving target. I, for one, am glad that the CDC changes and adjusts their recommendations as the virus becomes better understood. FTR, I never wiped down my groceries. As for "People are being stripped of their rights as US citizens " ... I'll just leave that there like the dead fish it is.

There are very basic rights being ignored in some of these orders. The right to assembly and the right to practice your religion are two first amendment rights being denied. It is simply not arguable. The fact that you agree with the motivations does not mean you should agree with the means. The government should be providing contextual information and allow the citizens to make informed decisions regarding what is essential.

I do agree the CDC not only should continue to change it recommendations as more information becomes available, it has a responsibility to do so. As more data becomes available it is incumbent among those in power to evolve. The problem here is the this new guidance updates previous guidance that was based on speculation alone. There has been no evidence this virus acted any different from other Coronaviruses during surface transmission. While the virus can live on surfaces for a limited amount of time the ability to transfer to a new host from that surface is extremely limited, as is true with other viruses.

The latest data confirms those at risk with this virus are the elderly and infirm, just as with other Coronaviruses. I hope the CDC acknowledges this and adjust it recommendations accordingly.

I'll probably regret this but I can't just leave this one lie.

NOT A SINGLE PERSON HAS BEEN PREVENTED FROM PRACTICING THEIR RELIGION. Every single church and religious organization in my area has continued to hold services virtually, and send a contingent of folks from church to visit (with appropriate social distancing) those who could not access the online services. And they aren't unusual or special. Several even figured out how to do "drive through" church. The temporary suspension of large group gatherings was not, no matter how hard you try to spin it, an attack on anyone's religion.

The problem is that it is hard to not touch your face. As I right this, I have an itch on my face. It's as if the virus is mind controlling us to spread the disease.

For the first month, I wore gloves. Not to protect myself from surfaces, but to remind me not to touch my face.

Over time, we will pinpoint transmission. In the 80's it was thought that insects was a cause of transmission of Aids.

You do realize science is an evolving and rapidly changing study right? So the more you study it the more things change. It’s a brand new virus of course information is going to change daily. That’s not science’s problem, it’s actually great.

I’ll just add not that is not that way where I live.

Regulation of gathering size has always been permitted, even for religious gatherings. See also fire marshal rules. We have signs throughout our building on how many people are the max capacity. Capacity and zoning are legal.

They have to be consistent - you can't allow a larger group of pastafarians in the same space as a group of Catholics. But you can hard limit the number allowed to be stuffed into physical space, just as you can regulate number of persons in a theater, in a hotel unit, etc.

Similarly, just as a city can regulate where a gas station can be built, reasonable regulation can b applied to reeligious buildings. Especially as they tend to be off the tax roll.

And I'll just add that even if I was never physically able to set foot inside a church building again, for the rest of my life, there is NOTHING in what is going on right now that would prevent me from practicing my religion. Nobody is being prevented from practicing their religion whether in their home, on their front lawn or in a way that honors social distancing measures in place. The building is not the church.

Don't regret debating. Perhaps you will change my mind. I am always open to a reasoned response. As to your point I understand it. But many practices in certain religions require the ability to convene physically. Whether it is Ash Wednesday or a Hasidic Jewish funeral it is not within the governments purview to limit a citizens ability to participate regardless of your opinion on whether the practice is reasonable.

Regulation of gathering size has always been permitted........ They have to be consistent...

This is exactly the point. The government can't deem one industry essential, such as a liquor sales, and say churches are not. They can't allow a grocery store to allow 40 people into the building and disallow a church from hosting any gatherings. The fact you may not find your ability to physically participate in the practice of your religion essential does not mean the same holds true for your neighbor. A simplistic order for all public spaces allowing for no more than 1 person per 144 square feet (4x the needed space) would have given everyone the ability to practice social distancing while allowing everyone the freedom to participate as they see fit.

Perhaps we can agree to disagree on what it means to practice your religion but the right to assemble will be harder to disagree with.

Anyhoo, I am glad to see Florida has begun to successfully reopen. While we all enjoy our Disney trips I think we can all rejoice the return of some normalcy and this is the first step. I am looking forward to my trip to the Boardwalk in June and will thoroughly enjoy it regardless of the restrictions. As of now we are set to arrive a few days after the last set of cancellations. Fingers crossed.

Actually, they can. Different restrictions can be placed on different industries.
