Change fee for modifying room-only reservation?

If I have a room-only reservation, I understand I have to cancel 8 days in advance for full refund. But will someone please confirm that I can modify my reservation to different dates without change fee (may have to pay the difference in nightly cost) up to the moment of check-in?

Is there a limit on how many times you can "kick the can" and change to later dates? I am not planning on doing this (because I REALLY want to take my trip) but I wondered if it was a loophole that you modify your dates to more than 8 days into the future and then cancel for full refund?

We're on our 3rd cancelled trip since the beginning of this month due to respiratory viruses being horrible this winter...our next chance is in April and I was thinking I shouldn't try to book anything until we're actually on the road, too late to turn back If I can modify hotel reservations the day before check-in, then I could book early and actually have a shot at lightening lanes.

Nobody can assure you of this as it is not a part of the Terms and Conditions of your booking. It is at Disney’s discretion. Disney has been allowing it but at any moment they may not and then you’ll have to eat the deposit of one night.

You can check the terms listed on your room reservation but as far as I know, there isn't a fee for changing a room only reservation.

No limit and it is not a loophole, modifying your dates within the 8 day cancellation period to a future date that is more than 8 days out. Disney has always allowed this type of modification for packages and room only reservations. You will not get the same pricing and may need to pay "rack" rates when making modification that close to travel.

All they have done for 2025 is change the room only cancellation period from 5 days to 8 days due to the 7 day LLMP booking window.

You do need to understand that when you modify your room only reservation:

Changes to reservation, including but not limited to change in travel dates, length of stay or hotel accommodations, are subject to availability and the rates applicable at the time the change is made and guest is responsible for paying any increase in price resulting from the change.

I wonder if this would work if tried in order:

1. Book LL at 7-day mark
2. Modify room-only reservation to a checkin date farther out
3. Cancel and get a refund of your deposit

Has anyone tried it?
