Hi everyone,
My SIL and her 5 kids will be coming in from Ireland for a Disney vacation with us. This will probably be a one time trip since the air is expensive to get WDW.
My DW and I own at SSR, my question is since this will probably be a once in a lifetime trip, do we A) get a studio and a 2BR at SSR or B) get a GV at OKW? What would the chances be of getting a GV at OKW at 7 months for the middle to end of August? I know it will be hot but she doesnt want to take the kids out of school and Easter is just too many points. Any and all input/advice would be greatly appreciated. :confused3

if your family likes its space, I would go with the 2 rooms. If they can handle being together for the entire trip - go for the GV.

A Gv is always a long shot at 7 months, but August isn't all that popular. I would reserve something at SSR to be sure you have a reservation at 11 months. Then try for the GV (waitlisting if needed) right at 7 months.

We've just been though this ourselves. We booked the 2 bdr plus studio at SSR at our 11 month window and at the 7 month we called day-by-day to switch to the GV at OKW. We managed to get the entire week with no waitlist! We're going mid-feb so our chances may have been better as it's a fairly quiet time of year.
As long as you are happy with either situation it can't hurt to try that method!

Ok...I have a question...will you need to borrow points to complete this reservation? Because if you borrow to book the SSR when you convert to the OKW you might have remaining points...so that is important to know.

I personally think you have 3 options
1)SSR stuido/2 brdm Book at 11-10 months out.
2)GV at OKW at 7months out...I think you might get it following the instructions above.
3) Stuido and 2brdm at OKW as a back up at 7 months(and WaitList the GV if necessary). I don't know how old your SIL children are but having the extra room at OKW will be helpful. Even though a few(2ppd over the GVokw) more, it does leave you with options.

I would also consider getting an additional night so you can slide the ressie based on the best prices for airfare....as long as no borrowing is involved.

Other thing I like about #1 and #3 is that if something were to happen and your SIL had to cancel, you would not be stuck looking for a room...you could just cancel the stuido or the 2 brdm. If you cancel the GV you will have to take what is available at the time. Just something to think about.

Good luck and I hope you all have a great trip.

Thanks everyone. Our plan was/is to get a studio and a 2br at 11 months so we would at least have a place to stay. Yes we will have to borrow points, although its only about a 70 point difference between SSR for st/2br and OKW GV. I imagine we would be able to use the borrowed points then bank the leftovers. With an Oct. use year this should work out ok. Will keep you posted.
