chances of scoring a "top-tier" DVC resort from few months prior...

So my family is sporadically planning a trip to WDW this summer-- specifically the last week of august. Whenever we go to WDW, we usually stay at OKW or SSR, but this time we really want to mix things up by staying at another resort.

We will be having a party of 8 (our family +2 friends).

Just a bit of a background:
We used to have a DVC @ SSR, but sold it a while ago.

We are looking into buying another DVC (this time through resale), probably at OKW.
--We will probably buy said DVC membership within the next two/three weeks.

We are aiming at the dates of August 20th-24 (for check in) and 27th-31st (for check out) and our top choice is a 2 bdr lock-off or 3 bedroom @ VGF.

Do you think it's possible to snag a week stay at VGF in a 2 or 3 bedroom?
If so, what way will give us the highest chance of getting it?
Do we even have a possibility of booking any 3 bedroom or 2 bedroom?
Do you have any suggestions?

PS- i'm not an expert at DVC considering i'm a teenager; i am just trying to make it easier by researching so i can help out my parents

This summer, forget about it. Buy where you love to stay and book at 11 months. Even booking at 7 months at non home resorts is more of a challenge compared to just a few years ago.

The problem is that any availability you see is not real time, and is subject to change in the next 10 minutes. If you want to capture availability, you have to commit.

Yes, even for that.
DVC is not a good last-minute product, and at this point in time availability changes by the hour for anything within 7 months.

If you are just now buying resale, it's very unlikely that you will be in the system and able to book any DVC resort with your points in time for an August vacation.

If you are just now buying resale, it's very unlikely that you will be in the system and able to book any DVC resort with your points in time for an August vacation.

If the availability is actually there, and you want to stay there, yes book through David's.

If you mean David's or find an owner, you're likely better off with David's, versus the back and forth with an owner.
