Chances of Cancellation on Cruise that leaves in 6 days

My family and I are booked on a cruise that leaves the day after Christmas. We wanted to add my 8 year old half sister to our room. Our father was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, and we thought this would be a good distraction. However, the boat as of right now is 100% at capacity. Our room is large enough to accommodate her-and we would be willing to switch to another family suite. Does anyone know the likelihood of a cancellation 6 days out from departure. Our travel agent is calling every day-and I call in the afternoons. Any other tips?

It's not all just about having another bed available -- DCL ships actually have more sleep spaces than passengers to allow for flexibility. There are 3 questions when trying to add another passenger:

1) is there a bed in the stateroom (sounds like yes)​

2) is there space at the muster station assigned to your stateroom​

3) if a child, is there space at the appropriate kids' club​

It sounds like either #2 or #3 (or both) are preventing you adding the extra guest.

If you've been told the whole sailing is sold out or the age-group is full, it is unlikely to become available though anything is possible and you can keep checking. If the issue is just your stateroom/muster station, DCL should be able to change your stateroom -- but if changing categories be aware that would change fare for all currently-booked passengers as well.

Unfortunately, I probably wouldn't count on a cancellation. If anything osmeone may not show up for their cruise with travel problems and such but that would be something discovered the day of at the terminal and I'm not sure they could even then book it.


DCL won't over book certain age groups or muster stations so my guess is that is why you cannot book her.
