Chances of cabin opening up after sailing is "sold out"?

We are sailing on a late September Dream cruise. I mentioned it to some friends of ours and they expressed interest in going. They went to book and it is all sold out. It is obviously very close to the sail date, but I guess I didn't expect it to be sold out given it is for late September. Is there any chance of openings becoming available this close to a sail date or once it's full, that's that?

I would think that the only way of a cabin opening up this late in the game would be a cancellation. The paid in full date has passed, so if someone cancelled it would have a penalty attached to it.
That being said, it DOES happen that folks have to cancel at the last minute. Perhaps, they should keep checking and see if something comes available. :)

Both vacationstogo.com and Expedia are showing availability on all Disney Dream cruises in September.

As is the DCL website. Do you mean they can't find the specific room category they want/need?

It looks like they have one cabin (verandah aft family size ) in Midship and several on many decks of the same size in Aft. These are for the 3 night cruise on Dream on September 30th though.

It is the 9/26 Dream 4-night. It's not even listed as an option anymore. I know it's probably a long shot, but was wondering if someone cancelled if it would pop back up or not.

Yes, it would. It's possible. I'd suggest maybe a phone call or two to DCL every couple of days. Sometimes a real, live, CM can be more helpful that just checking online.

Just keep checking online. The DCL website has realtime access to inventory. I shopped for my most recent cruise just 2-3 weeks before departure, and I saw inventory for some of the last categories change several times a day, including previously-sold-out categories suddenly have a room pop up. Consider that there are 1250 guest rooms. There are frequently people that need to cancel due to illness, family emergency, etc., whether they have trip insurance or not. As soon as you select a room, either online, on the phone with Disney, or via a travel agent, it will disappear from online availability instantly, so if it's showing as available on the website, it's really there. At least at that moment.

And it could be that one or a few of the rooms are currently just on hold for 3 days, & will be released from hold due to the holder changing his/her mind. Keep checking.
