I already have a SSR 3 BR grand villa booked for 9 people Christmas week 2021 but this week I plan to try to modify to Vero Beach. What do you think are my chances at getting the 3BR beach cottage at Vero Beach 7 months out? I have never modified a reservation before and am worried about doing it online vs. calling member services. Any advice on how best to navigate this modification? Thanks!

Is it showing as available on the RAT? If it is available you would go into your SSR reservation and select to modify it when your 7mo window opens up, look at the availability for VB for the dates and select that to book instead and it will use the point you already were using from your SSR reservation. If its not available then unless you complete the modification process your SSR booking will still be intact.

What is and where might I find the RAT? I have not checked availability before. Thank you!

When you are logged into the DVC site right under the welcome home banner you can put in dates and check availability at the resorts and room sizes, even if you don't have booking priority there.

Thank you!

Today the website, when you open Plan a Vacation at top right, has the applicable page named "Book a Vacation." For some time before 2016, it was actually named "Resort Availability Tool" on the site. Due to usual problems with the tool, members began calling it by its acronym "RAT."

Members kept calling it that until DVC, likely in response to the members' choice of name, renamed the tool on the site the "Check Resort Availability" page, apparently without thinking through the probable response by members. In almost record time, its name on these sites became "CRAP." That lasted for a while until the DVC site flipped back to the "Resort Availability Tool" -- DVC must have concluded that being called RAT was better than being called CRAP. Eventually, the website was updated and the tool is now just called "Book a Vacation," but, as demonstrated in this thread, many still refer to it as RAT.
