Chance of new Dvc in Cali?

Problem is that DVC is currently selling aulani but they aren’t doing that well. By announcing a new DVC resort in the same region or in a region which is supposed to draw buyers to aulani some might hold off buying if they know a new DVC resort is coming.

If a new DVC resort is coming my guess is they will hold their cards pretty tightly until either aulani is close to sold out or until they HAVE TO announce the new resort.

Good insight. Makes more sense than my reasoning. I am assuming there are far less people split considering between Florida and California as a home resort as there are those looking at either California or Hawaii. That brings a little hope back.

I may be totally off on this, but I don't think a second DVC at DLR would necessarily cannibalize sales at AUL. I think the target audience is a bit different as for anyone to be considering purchasing at AUL, it's mostly for staying at AUL during busy times (ie: need home resort booking advantage). I am not saying it won't have any effect, but not as much as it might appear to be. AUL hasn't been selling well for a variety reasons, but building a second DVC at DLR shouldn't have too much more negative impact. My (wild) guess is that it might actually help sales at AUL a bit since there will now be more available DVC units to be had in So Cal. Hence, more people may feel taking the plunge at AUL would give them a slightly better chance than the current "near impossible" 7-month window as a result of this small increase in inventory.

I will agree that aulani was also build to attract the Asia market but imho a new dvc at DLR will cannibalize Aulani at least if they announce it before aulani is almost or close to sold out.

I've been in TDR 4 days last year and I've never seen the DVC booths manned. If they're serious about attracting Japanese customers, they should put some effort on it.

I don't think they announce a DVC in California until they have some pretty firm details. This is material information that influences funding AND real estate valuation.

There will be more DVC in California. It won't depress pricing of VGC. Getting 7-month rooms will not become easier, either.

I think a new DVC at DLR is going to be priced for a premium. It it were to go on sale tomorrow, I'd bet on $200 per point and it would sell.

I think it's a 100% chance there will be DVC units. Guaranteed full prepaid, high priced occupancy for 50 years is a no brainer.

If they announce new DVC in California hubby and I will probably look at adding on... I bet it'll be out of our price range though unfortunately. We've fallen more and more in love with the California parks and with the shorter and cheaper flights out west it's becoming the obvious choice for our vacations.

I am hoping they’ll do a tower at DLH for DVC. We just bought at GCV-we’ve never stayed there and at really excited. DL is our favorite park-we are on the West Coast-and DLH is my favorite as far as theming goes.

You may have it in your name. You may use it as reference for yourself ... but please, don't use it in a spoken or written communications to refer to California? Thank you, most kindly.
I googled it. I don't see why it's an issue other than native Californians don't like it. Am I missing something?

I think everyone is missing that this is tongue-in-cheek kidding around. Google is right, a lot of Californians will shutter at the "Cali" reference but it is not horrible and no lives will be lost! :flower:

It makes the locals' teeth grind. It is strangely unnerving, annoying, and out of place. Someone on another board recently put it this way, "It's like you're trying to be cool, but don't understand the terminology."

well now that I know it makes Californians annoyed, I will make sure to up my usage anytime I encounter one.

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take for VGC to sell out?

At least 3 years I think - maybe more. But it was during the recession and DVC was selling BLT, AKV and maybe some SSR too.

Do you think they're going to get rid of the 25 point minimum? We're Californians and a 1-2 night stay is all we'd need. We've been oversaturated with Disneyland, but we'd do it during Christmas or Thanksgiving every few years if we owned DVC

Just to make sure you are aware, 25 points is the minimum to add on to an existing contract. If you are becoming a new DVC member, the minimum point purchase is at least 50. Wasn't sure which camp you fell into based on your question.

We would be adding on. We're waiting on ROFR on our 1st contract right now and hope to add on before our 2019 trip!
