Chance of new Dvc in Cali?

Do you think they're going to get rid of the 25 point minimum? We're Californians and a 1-2 night stay is all we'd need. We've been oversaturated with Disneyland, but we'd do it during Christmas or Thanksgiving every few years if we owned DVC

Just chatted with DVC Member Services and asked if there'll be DVC in new hotel. Response: There is not indication of that at this time. So I asked if that meant "no" or just they are not indicating either way. She just restated her original response.

I guess they will keep us guessing for the next several months!

Member Services would not be given ANY pre-announcement information. It would actually be illegal for them to have that information.

I don't think they announce a DVC in California until they have some pretty firm details. This is material information that influences funding AND real estate valuation.

There will be more DVC in California. It won't depress pricing of VGC. Getting 7-month rooms will not become easier, either.

I think it's a 100% chance there will be DVC units. Guaranteed full prepaid, high priced occupancy for 50 years is a no brainer.

While it's highly likely that aurora is right that there will be more DVC in California eventually, its a toss up whether that will be at this new hotel or not. Main reason being that the City of Anaheim has laws about how many timeshare units can be built and they are currently maxed out (saw that on a blog somewhere), so if DVD wants to add more DVC at this resort they're going to have to sweet talk/line the City's pockets and all the locals I've talked to seem to believe that Anaheim city officials are not fond of Disney despite the ridiculous amount of revenue they bring in. There are a lot of great nearby cities they could add a DVC to though, perhaps with shuttles that ran regularly or some sort of better transportation to the parks? The land for the Marriott Vacation Club they built in Newport Beach was originally owned by Disney, so they might try something like that again in the future. Personally I'm hoping they'll work things out with the city to raise the limit of timeshares or whatever they need to do to add more DVC, but I'm not betting on it.

That's a logical conclusion, except that money talks, and city officials will do what Disney wants regardless of what the public opinion seems to be. Disney wouldn't remove retail and invest in an expensive new property if it couldn't sell at least part of it as DVC. I'll bet 10 to 1 odds (maybe higher assuming I can cover the spread) on there being a new DVC condo association as part of the new property. It won't be in an adjacent city with bus transportation, either. It will be between a third and half of the new property, it will be expensive, and it will sell out fairly quickly.

I read the rumors as well of a new DVC at DLR, but I'm probably 50/50 on it actually happening. When the rumors first came out I was 100% sure I would buy into it, but sitting down and giving it a good hard thought, I won't. We have no problem staying on Harbor as our DLR trips are shorter than WDW trips and don't care about the room as much. I have no doubt it'll sell out quick if it does happen though.

We have no problem staying on Harbor as our DLR trips are shorter than WDW trips and don't care about the room as much.

Not only that but DL resorts IMHO are outrageously expensive vs. the offsite ones (all of a block away) which are very reasonably priced and are generally very nice. We'll be there soon for an entire week and will only go to a disney park 2-3 days tops, and only half a day or so each time. The rest of the time will be spent visiting family in the area and doing other miscellaneous tourist stuff. So, the disney premium is even less valuable to us.
