Can you put champagne in checked luggage? I'd rather not run around Orlando on our vacation trying to find our favorite champagne... but I don't want to lose my luggage for it either! ;)

You won't loose your luggage, but, since it is a very bubbly substance, I would carry it on.

I agree, carry it on, too many problems with checking it. You could end up with ruined clothes, and if the bottle breaks or pops and your suitcase leaks, other peoples ruined clothes. Not a good way to start a trip.

I was thinking of doing this with a bottle of Vodka simply because I don't want to drive around looking for a liquor store .... I was going to double wrap it in plastic bags. But then hubby said we shouldnt bother...just to pick it up there. I hope its not hard to find a liquor store....I hate wasting time on mundane things when on vacation!!

Trust me, find a liquor store is easy. I would not worry about Vodka, it does not fizz and bubble. There is a liquor store next to Walgreens on rte. 535, good prices.

I have taken champagne w/ me on a plane-but as a carryon. I was worried about pressurized/not pressurized areas of plane.

I have also carried favorite wine and other non-fizzy alcohol in bottles in my checked baggage-wrapped in towels or socks or other things w/ lots of cushion. It was not a problem. Of course this was all prior to the time when they started to open the luggage at the airports, although post 9/11.

you can still carry alcohol on the plane and you can check it in your luggage. We carry wine back with us all the time and Dee' s Jack Daniels. Heck, I even check Coke.

I wouldn't. Have you ever watched the baggage handlers? I would not want the risk of bubbly all over my luggage!

LOL Carol, I have even put eggs in my checked baggage and they have come home (ok two cracked) just fine.

You just can't beat those great Orlando eggs!!

I think that is the no. 2 tourist souvenier, after Mickey's ears of course.

LOL

LOL!!!!! If they would let mousekeeping keep food left at OKW/DVC, then I would leave them, but....they don't and I hate wasting food, so, I wrap them in paper towels, put them back in the egg carton and transport them. I will admit, over the trips, it has become more of a challenge than a not waste thing. :)

I packed two bottles of wine in two separate pieces of luggage on my trip back from Italy. They were wrapped very carefully in towels....one broke, the other was fine. It would be a shame to lose a bottle, though.....I'd opt for carrying it on the plane. I would have done the same with the wine, but we were already carrying cartons of olive oil! ;)

Gail-You are adventurous!! I would have probably made egg salad or at least hard boiled them-but the smell. I know what you mean though re: leftovers at OKW.

My cousins tried to "smuggle" some potent liqour from Ireland last summer. It was Poteen-which is illegal in America. I think it burned a whole in the glass bottle and peeled the lining off of the suitcase!!
Wine and olive oil are a little safer.
This reminds me of that classic "I Love Lucy" whn she tries to bring home chees on the plane...

LOL, well adventurous works, wild comes closer. :)

Hardboiled? Ah come on!!!! No challenge there. :)

I had a friend who bought back hot sauce from LA. He just tossed in the luggage. Yep... hot sauce on EVERYTHING.

99% of the time my luggage comes thur fine, but every now and then..... (there was the time they drug my garmet bag behind the luggage cart....)

Oh, bummer!!!! I once brought home some Newman's Italian, wrapped it really well and put it in a plastic bag. Well, it broke, and luckily only the inside of my bag got hit, but, nothing serious, mostly food. Threw the bag in the wash and no smell. :)
Oh, but, that hot sauce, what a mess!
