I've decided that I really want to get some chalk to use on torn edges, die cuts & the like. I remember someone asking before about the colors, but can't remember what was said. I've tried searching for previous threads on the subject, but haven't found the info I need.

I have a couple questions - like:
Which do you find more useful - bright colors or pastels?
Or do you use enough of each to make it worthwhile buying a larger set?
Which brand do you use?
Do you just use Q-tips or an applicator? If so, which type/brand?

TIA!

Hi PiratesMate :wave2:
I got my chalks a while back from a Close To My Heart consultant - it is a plastic box with about 16 colors in it. They have changed their chalks now but I believe I saw the same one I have at WalMart in the craft section. It has some light and dark colors and has been pretty much all the chalk I have needed.
Hope that helps,
Sandy

i got mine online and it is a huge set on small squares with tons of shades (I also have the ek sucess ones from Walmart) I find I use pastels more than the darks - I just put more layers if I want it darker... but you can erase it if you need to so don't be afraid to experament
I use a q-tip - or my finger most of the time!

I have one of the sets with the small 1" squares that I got from Joann's with a 40% off coupon. I use Q-tips to apply and blend.

I have two sets. I have on that is a flat tray with maybe 20 small squares of chalk. Love the colors but don't like the packaging. The plastic broke to hold it shut and the chalk has slipped out and cracked. So I think bought this round set at Walmart. Love it. The chalk is in small triangle shapes and I have three layers. Will a good mix of colors. I like a more pastel pack.
I use small cotton balls with an aligator clip. or my finger if just doing a quick chalking.

I have a square 16-20 set that Ive had forever with basic bright colors and then for my birthday I got the Pastel Pebbles Inc set

I love them both but I prob use the brights more but the pastels are catching up

I have the Chalklets (round with triangular pieces of chalk) and while I love the colours (I got the three pack so I have brights and pastels) I hate the round tall packaging because I carry most of my stuff in my CIS Navigator. A flat pack would be easier to pack. I now want the Pebbles one but I won't buy it because mine is almost new. But if i were you I would make my decision based on how you store it. A tall round container is harder to store than a flat pack.

I think I own every kind of chalk made -- but I have two of the Pebbles i-kandee chalk sets, and they are my favorites!! They have applicators that fit right in the case with them, and I love the colors. They also go on really nicely. I think they're coming out with new colors, too -- I'll have to be on the lookout for those. :)

Thanks for all the replies! I'll have to keep my eye out for some of these. It's a good thing I'm not spending any money for the next 2 months, though. Otherwise, I'd probably have to just get some of each to "try them out"! ;)

I thought I'd read on another thread a couple months ago that someone had gotten the pastels, but couldn't see them on the paper....or something like that. I just can't find it when I search. I thought there was some good info about the colors there. :confused3
