Kind of a TMI topic I know, but we are headed to the beach in two weeks for vacation. The last time we spent a week at the beach my son was raw and sore in uncomfortable places:scared: because of the salt and sand constantly in his trunks. What can I buy to help out here?

Thanks (from the whole fam LOL)!

After some vigorous complaining after riding Kali River Rapids on a trip last year (where we got soaked and then walked for hours in 100 degree weather), my wife (as a semi joke) ordered me some of this product: http://www.sofreshsodry.com , which she heard advertised on the radio.

It might have been a funny joke, but the product is fantastic. So much so that after seeing it, she ordered some of the "feminine" version for her (since she hates jogging down there in the summer without some kind of anti-chafe protection).

It's a little pricey and only available on the internet in the US, but it's absolutely fantastic and I guarantee just about any guy who gave it a shot would love to have it down in the parks.

p.s. type in "100" in the coupon code - it usually gets you free shipping.

If you go to Rite Aid, in the section where there's stuff for athletes feet and jock itch, there's some anti chafing stuff made by Lanicane (Ithink it's the brand) that you can purchase for 7.99. There's no smell and it works great.

Body Glide is your friend.

I second that. My boyfriend did his first half marathon with me back in February and he said the Body Glide I bought him was the best gift I could've given. No chafing whatsoever and it lasted the entire time through sweating and everything. If you buy it from Running Warehouse (www.runningwarehouse.com) and enter "WISHD" under the "Team Discounts" at the top you get 15% off and they offer free 2 day shipping with no minimum.

Agree, use Body Glide before you get wet and if you still have irritation rash afterwards use either diaper cream or hydrocortisone cream on the affected area.

Once you leave the beach/pool/water get out of the wet swimsuit immediately!

Another thing that helps is have him sleep in just a t-shirt with no undies or bottoms, this will help keep the area dry and will promote healing.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Well..............he is 17 and I don't think the buddy he is bringing along on the trip would appreciate the no undies bit at night LOL!!!

All that being said, the body glide regular--anti chafe balm is the one? There are a couple of choices. I'm gonna make sure he has several suits to swim in so that he always has a dry one to put on when he gets out, and showers to get the sand and salt off each time.

Thanks for the info guys. Anything else anyone has for ideas just let me know!

Thanks

Well if he is miserable enough then he might just do it. In that case, a pair of loose fitting cotton lounge shorts to sleep in could be a backup plan. The point is to get some air circulation so there isn't any moisture buildup.

This is the bodyglide that I buy. This really is amazing stuff. You can use it anywhere. Just make sure the area is clean and dry before applying. I even use it on my feet with a pair of sandals that rub my big toe wrong. I just swipe over the tops of my feet and I no longer get a blister in that spot. It makes such a difference!

Yes everyone here told me about bodyglide in 2006 when we did our 1st disney trip - Always carry it with us. We all rub it all over our feet b4 headingout - no blisters!

Body Glide :thumbsup2
My DS13 received a Dick's Sporting Goods gift card for his birthday and I kept joking with him that he could stock up on Body Glide before our next Disney trip.

Everyone really loves bodyglide for being sweaty and not chafing, but has anyone used it for the beach?

body glide is wonderful
If he does get a rash use peneten(sp?) i know it is for diaper rashes but works awesome and fast

Body Glide!!!! You can use it at the beach!. I have a few nephews that have this problem so I knew it early on. Whenever there is a pool with chlorine or at the beach we have this problem. It gets worse with running in the wet bathing suit.

My son will also wear a pair of long underwear under his bathing suit.

It is a vacation must have!

Another vote for Bodyglide,I have to use it if I go to the beach,to a waterpark,if I'm going running or even going to a theme park on a hot day when I know I'll be sweating.Best product out there for chafing or blisters.

Body Glide is good, but a little pricey.
Monistat anti chafing is good too.

But my budget suggestion...anti perspirant. Years ago someone on these boards recommended Body Glide. I used it mainly on my feet and it prevented any of the usual blistering I would get after long days in Disney. But then after doing some more research, someone suggested just using an antiperspirant. And I gotta tell you it really works. I use it in a stick, but I bet spray antiperspirant would work just as good.
