chaffing help!

As I often ride (bicycle) long distances (100+ miles), the chafing problem is one that I am very familiar with. The least expensive solution that I know of is "Bag Balm" or "Udder Butter". These can both be found in general stores such as Fleet Farm, in the vetrinary section. If you do not have access to a store like that, the expensive solution is to drop in any good bicycle shop and pick up some chamois cream - just about any brand will do. This stff is made specifically for chafing problems.

A generous amount of baby powder should do the trick. Its always worked for my family even in the hottest of weather. And they also carry those little bottles of baby powder in the travel aisle, perfect to fit in a purse, or backpack. :cool1:

can anyone give me some advice on how to prevent chaffing? in the humidity when my legs rub together i get really bad painful chaffing. thanks!!!!

Bring some Anti-persiprant (spelling?) with you and apply to the areas that chaff.

You wouldn't believe how well this works.

Have fun :)

oogieboogie, Thank you so much for the Arrid tip! :flower:
I tried it at a local amusement park yesterday & it worked GREAT!

just back from my week trip and the Arrid Extra Dry worked great!!

thanks soooo much!

Not that I make a habit of watching Oprah, but I did catch an episode today that was talking about "butt-cream" (great name :rotfl: )- the inventor said that professional athletes sometimes use it to prevent chafing - it is sold at wal-mart, target and "fine drug stores"

edited to read: sorry, I meant "butt-paste"

Yes! Boudreaux's Butt Paste! I use it on my DS7mos and I swear by it! I started using it with my first DS4 and neither of my boys have ever had any kind of diaper rash. I haven't tried it for anything else, but I bet it would work for chaffing.

Haven't read all the posts, but try BUTT PASTE. I know it sounds bad, but it is good for stings, bites, diaper rash, lip ointment, ... the list can go on and on. You can get it at most stores.

I am going to invest in stock for the new monistat product!!!

My 8 year old daughter has een blessed with the family thighs. I have never had a problem with chaffing, but because of the way she insists on wearing her pants, she has had an awful time with chaffing.

Because I didn't have this problem, I did not know what to do. We tried baby power, and that worked for awhile, but it would not last all day. Her chaffing got so bad, that she has dark bruises on the inside of her thigh because we could not find anything that worked.

We looked and looked and could not find bodyglide, so I was just ready to order it online when I heard about the Monistat products. I put my whole family on a Monistat search. No luck!!

We were heading to a local theme park last week, and I had to do something because it was hot, supposed to rain and she wanted to ride water rides :earseek: :earseek: .

I went to Wal-mart and bought the medicated gold bond baby powder. This worked well, but we had to reapply it, and that caused a mess all over her, me and the bathroom stall!

We were on the search again. Well yesterday, we found the Monistat chafing relief powder/gel at Walgreens in a neighboring county. A small tube cost $7.00, but we were desperate. We bought it, and within one application, her thighs already looked better. We have been reapplying it frequently, but it is not messy, so she can reapply by herself in the bathroom!

Today, we found the gel at Wal-mart. It was only $6.00 there, and we had gotten a two dollar coupon in the first box. I went ahead and picked up some more to take to disney world with us in July!

We are so excited about this product as it is the only thing we can find locally that works without a major mess!!!!

For all my sports I play I wear UnderArmour Compression Shorts. They are great for the heat and stop chaffing.

I am having trouble finding biking shorts/compression shorts in a 1x? Any ideas. I have checked Dicks and Walmart. Thanks

Being of Pooh size, and blessed with my grandmother's thighs, I know a bit about chafing. The best preventive I have found is to wear loose nylon shorts, like the kind my kids wore for soccer. I have found some similar ones in the ladies' athletic wear department at Kohl's by Nike and Adidas...they may not be the prettiest or most fashionable, but by George, I don't have the terrible painful problems I used to! I used to be in misery from about an hour into our park day, until several days after our return. The nylon shorts also dry quickly, which eliminates the perspiration chafing, and helps on SM and KRR soakings!

Just got home on Saturday and used Body Glide everyday on my feet and in between my thighs...no chaffing or blisters....got it a local runners store. Heard you can get at sporting goods stores.

Thank you for all of the suggestions! Something that has helped me, but of course won't be suitable for a man, would be pettipants, or a divided slip, or underpants with long legs. I'm going to look for the Body Glide, too.

I went to WDW during this week last year and used the Body Glide. No problems whatsoever. It even helped out my 15-year old nephew, who by the way is extremely athletic and in great shape. Thank goodness I got the bigger one.

Once again we just came back from our trip, this time in 80/90 degree heat and DH did not chafe one bit.

He used up one tin of Arrid Extra Dry Cream antiperspirant for the entire trip, applying just once in the morning on the inner thighs and didn't experience any chafing for the entire day.

I'm standing by Arrid. It's cheap and it works.

I bought Bodyglide from the Running Room the large size was $17.99 CDN.

My best friend swears by Body Glide. She is an Ultra-Marathon runner, which means she runs 100-mile races. The Body Glide lasts through the entire race with no chafing. I borrowed some of it when we went to Disneyland a few years back for 5 days and it was GREAT. You can buy it at any store that caters to runners/walkers, sports, REI, etc. or buy it online.
