central Fl campgrounds in a non tourist area

Deb, can you tell me in order, the proximity to The Fort for these CG'S ? Thanks

Out of the ones I previously named, LeLynn is probably the closest & easiest. It's about 25 miles due west of the Fort, right off I-4.

Cherry Pockets is SW of the Fort - about 40 miles, lots of backwoods driving.

River Ranch is about 50 miles from the Fort - back roads, but fast.

There are several others that popped into my head you might want to consider....

Ft. Summit KOA & Theme World (2 different campgrounds right next to each other) at I-4 & US 27. No fishing, but closer to the Fort. It's "okay" for a place to crash. It's about 10-12 miles west of the Fort.

Also - at US Hwy 192 W & US 27 is an Encore RV resort. It's about 7 miles from the Fort. Also, no fishing - but a very nice resort.

And, just 2 miles from the Fort is Tropical Palms. It's clutzy cute. I like it! It's on US Hwy 192 next to Old Town. You can literally walk to Old Town. You might like this one the best.

For the days you want to stay, you need to pick one and call NOW!! They all book up quickly for the holidays.

I would really recommend Tropical Palms. If Frank wants to fish, he can be at the Fort in no time at all.

Darn, the weight limit for a dog at LeLynn is 40 pounds. Diet time. :lmao:

Boy do I feel stupid. Didn't know what River Ranch was and I grew up 15 miles away. The pics look nice.

We haven't camped there but http://www.campingspacecoast.com/longpoint/index.php looks real appealing. It's a county park that appears to be great for fishing, biking and the beaches. They only have 15 sites that are full hookup and 100+ other partial sites. It's on a little island (well almost), on the intracoastal waterway within biking distance of the Sebastian Inlet.

My turn to say 'boy do I feel stupid'. I've lived here all my life I never knew about Longpoint! I think I feel another camping trip coming up:)

Lie! (Unless they actually weigh the dog!)
Duke can't pass for 40 lbs., Bailey probably could. She said call me back if you don't find something. :confused3 I just don't want to be hassled by the snowbirds.

Most of the snowbirds are winter members of my church! Just tell them to see me if they don't like Duke or Bailey! I'll have Pastor give a "Love Thy Neighbor's Dog" sermon!! :rotfl2:

I don't know if Deb mentioned this CG, Lake Louise is not to far from Disney. It is a state park, but does have some full hook-ups. I think there is fishing, because they have some nice lakes. We are staying there in 2 weeks, have been before. If I can find the link I will send it to you.
