Centerpieces (New idea post #20-HELP)

I've seen the cake centerpiece idea in magazines. You could have the table numbers on top of the cake. You could even have guest names that are sitting at the particular table frosted on the cake. As far as it needing to be matchy-matchy...well do what you feel the most comfortable with...but I do think that different themes make the guests feel special about being at a particular table...besides if it's all Disney...then it's basically the same theme. :)

Hmmm. If you go with the original idea, I think rose petals on the table and no mirror.

I like the idea of the mini-cakes, but I am afraid it would cost you a lot, especially if they're all decorated differently.

So here's another idea we're kicking around after our 40 minute phone call :rotfl: My mom went to a wedding recently where they had a 2 layer cake for each table and had it up on a crystal cake stand and that was the centerpiece. What do you think of that? Maybe a 2 layer one per table, elevated, and then votives and flower petals on the table below?

I don't know if Disney would let us do this, though, because all their cakes are so big. We would end up needing like 6 cakes and I think it might get pretty pricey! Although, our big cake was going to be about $600-$700ish, so if each smaller cake was around $100 we'd still be in good shape.

Then we started to get creative and thought it would be cool to theme the tables. Maybe the 'Cinderella' table with a white and blue cake, a 'Beauty and the Beast' table with a french looking cake, etc... However, I'm a very matchy matchy person so I don't know if I could handle that.

Help! I need opinions! :) :) :)

I just saw that on TV last night (when I was not celeb stalking in the DIS :rotfl2: ) and thought it was a GREAT idea! Since I am having two receptions I was thinking of doing it at my at home reception and making the cakes myself. I thought Disney might charge too much. But if it is similar in price I say go for it! It would look great.

I emailed Linda and Marion today to get the contact information for the bakery. I'm going to try to call this week sometime and run it by them. I'll keep you posted on the cost!

I just wanted to let you know that there is no longer a Disney Home store @ DTD. It's now the pet shop place and winnie the pooh place. I haven't seen mickey head floating candles in a few years. You can call merchandise services and ask if they have them 407-363-6200

DOH!!!!!!!!!! Thank you! I like the pet place too :) :) I haven't been there since Sept of 2004 and both places were there then. Oh well :(

I think that the cakes on each table is going to be really costly! They normally have a base amount for servings out of cake b4 they will make it. If I remember correctly the min served for a cake would be 50. At least that is what I remember being told. You may want to check on that. At 12.00 a slice that is pretty costly. Work with your Floral Coordinator they are really creative people and can help you come up with an option that fits in your budget.

PS I'll just send you all the stuff and you can use it on June 25, and then have DFTW store it and I can use it when I get there 2 weeks later! :rotfl:

Haha too funny! Hmm... I wonder if we can start recylcing each other's centerpeices and other things ;) I think that would get complicated!

I like the cake centerpiece idea a lot! That would be so pretty! I agree w/ Jonette though, I could see them charging you A LOT for it. I don't know why the cake at Disney has to be so expensive :sad2:

I got an email back today about the cake idea. She said she's going to check into it because I asked about an 'intimate' sized cake that was decorated in a custom way. She's going to see if they'll do anything smaller than 50. I'm not getting my hopes up, though. It's kind of annoying that every idea I've come up with we can't do

I had started the thought process about centerpieces, and had come up with some good ones. Then Pam Pierce called yesterday about my contract and we changed reception locations to have dinner at the French Island for Illuminations. When I asked about centerpieces, she said they had to be Disney. What a bummer. I was all excited about getting to make my own. Oh well. Just more money to shell out. You'd think it grew on trees or something.

Just wanted to post back about the cakes in case anyone else was interested in doing it as well. I don't know for sure if we're going to do it or not, but it's nice to know the details.

for a 1 tier 6" by 8" cake with no decoration and buttercream frosting it costs $25 per cake

for a 1 tier 6" by 8" cake with mickey stamps and fondant it costs $40 per cake

for a 2 tier intimate wedding size cake with fondant it costs $250 per cake (quite a jump in price there!)

Plus, we would still want to have a cute cake for us to cut so I don't know how we're going to do with this idea. That's a LOT of cake!! Marion suggested doing the 1 tier on a crystal pedastal (we would need to provide them) and then sprinkling flower petals over the table, but I just feel like that is too small for that large table.

I guess we'll just wait and see what ideas Laura has when we go for our planning session in January.
