So, I think I remember reading somewhere that the center of WDW is in Epcot. Hard as I've tried, I can't find that info and would like to know if this is true and where exactly to look. Any help would be appreciated.

Yup, there is. Let me go look at the map and I'll try to give you directions to it.

Hmmm.... I can't remember where it is by looking at the map. I know it's near the exhibit in Future World that shows Walt throughout the years. It's a very overlooked exhibit if I remember correctly. Basically, it's a spot on the ground (about 6 feet in diameter) that is smack dab in the middle of one of the walkways (outdoor). It marks what used to be the center of Disney property, hence why Epcot used to be called Epcot Center. I'm sorry I can't remember more. Hopefully someone else will pitch in.

This is actually only a popular misconception. Epcot Center was not called "center" because it is in the center of WDW. It refers to the intent of the park as world fair/exposition center. Similarly the area in Epcot being spoken of is not the center of WDW, and it never was. It is simply a timeline of historic events that was added around the millennium celebration. WDW is not round nor square and therefore it is very difficult to determine its true center. However I assure you it is not the area in Epcot you think it is. If you properly map it out using mapping software you will find that the actual geographical center is located at 28.559752' N, 81.559752' W, which is in the Disney-MGM Studios

This is the way I've always heard it, but can't confirm its validity. You are thiking of the Inventors Circle in the pathway between Innoventions and The Land. See Image (You may need to zoom out to get a better sense of its location.) It was the center of Walt Disney World at the time, but various land purchases and sales have changed this. Can anyone confirm this? :listen:

I think I remember that the spot was near the "tunnel" that comes from the center of FW towards the "Land" pavillion. And I think the reason why this isn't the center of Epcot, although it was planned to be, has to do with the finding of some endangered birds (a type of sparrow?) when they were building Epcot, causing them to have to change their plans a little, so that the exact center of WDW is not at the center of Epcot. Does that sound right or did I just continue an urban legend?

Wow, then the tour guide from Disney Institute who told us this on our Hidden Treasures of the World Showcase tour needs to brush up on her history.

Unfortunately, that is often times the case with many of the tour guides.

I have also been told & read in an official Disney Book (can't remember which one), that this was the center of the Original WDW Land Purchase. Over the years, various land acquistions have changed it, but that it was the original center.

I make sure to stop & appreciate it each trip.

i believe it was some time ago but it having changed makes sense when you think about the land purchases & sales...

That's the way I always understood it to be.
